Glad to hear from ya. I didn't see you at the weigh in and was concerned you had boat trouble in that mighty current. I didn't see ya at the Seminar as I was in transit from my Job to the Campground.
Just like you were sayin' in your post. If a guy can luck across a couple good fish, he should be in the money. That's what happened. We were fishin' eddies out on the main channel at the south end of the lake. Only caught 16 but two were over 1.5. Two were over 1 and the other three were 9 - 10 inches. When that first big one appeared I about stained my britches. When the second appear there was hoopin' and hollerin' that could be heard up the lake. The guys that won were hopin' for three or four pounds like we were. When they went to the area they were catchin' little ones two days prior, the little ones had moved out and they didn't catch a single fish under 3/4 pounds. They ran out of minnows by 1:00 and just weighed in about 1:30. Hudgens is a hell of a fisherman. Won the Amateur Classic in 2001.
Red and Yellow Southern Pros out performed all other colors for numbers but no big fish on those. Big ones came on Black/Pink and Yellow/Chartruese. The 12 inch fish was on a Black/Chartruese tail YUM Beavertail. All were tipped with a minnow. Couldn't but a bite with just a jig and berkley nibble.
Hopefully we'll be able to stick some biggun's in Kentucky. My goal is to get to the Classic every year to see the big dogs in action and learn, learn, learn. Will look good on the resume if I ever start guiding on Table Rock.
I digress, cuz I'm ramblin'. Good luck in your Crappie endeavors and thanx for askin' how we did.

Nothing makes a Crappie grow faster than almost being caught.
