    Default Skiatook Lake-day or night!

Question! Do you have better results catching crappie daytime or nighttime on Skiatook Lake? I have limited success fishing daytime and have some nights I can fill a livewell up with crappie. Was told once ,being water is so clear on Skiatook lake, crappie tend to head for deep water on sunny days due to sunlight hurting their eyes. Wonder if there's any truth behind this ?

I've always had the best luck from daylight to noonish. Never have fished the lake at night.

There used to be some firemen that would fish Wildhorse, Big Hominy, Boar, and the mouth of Sand Creek at night under lights in the winter. I've done it once at Skiatook, and it was in the back of Turkey Creek, and we caught around 20. There was some boys pulling limits off the top of Bull Creek Bridge at night probably 10 years ago, but the game warden put a stop to it. I do think it takes a hour or so after sundown for fish's eyes to adjust.

Never heard of that. Crappie are sunfish. They will tend to be deeper in clearer water but can also be found in shallow water. I understand muddy water also warms faster. I know some people that catch them shallow year round.
Catch da Crappie! I likes it a lot.

Joined crappie.com few years ago, my first post. I fished skiatook lake for 25 years. I catch most crappie at first light to about 8:30 in the morning in the summer. June to end of October. At night, I fish on edge of creek Chanel's in 25 to 35 feet of water. If the shad show up around the light, hold on. Best luck at night usually there is 5 to 10 mph wind.

Help needed! My 8 yr. old son is ready to go fishing but I don't have a boat or dock slips. Need suggestions for bank fishing. I've never fished Skiatook other than Crystal Bay Docks when father-in-law took me a couple years ago. Looking to go this weekend.
