    Default Fishing at night?

Now that I have my boat I need to know how to set it up for night fishing. I do NOT like the sun so most of my fishing will be night time. My boat currently has the pole light that you plug in on the back but does not have a light in front. What is needed 1st to be safe 2nd to be legal to fish at night in Oklahoma.

    Thanks in advance

    Glen

1st you need get that front lite on, if dont have that you not legal. then just make sure you have standard stuff. i would recommend you get a spot light for night time fishing. reason why you can spot light, while you are drive on the water. to make sure you dont hit anything. there are some people on the water that dont used there lights at night while sitting still.

a red green bow light is required by law, secondly you can take a clip on work light and replace the 120vt plug with aligator clips or other means of attaching to a 12vt battery, also be sure to use a 12vt bulb.

    Default What I do

Glenn, you need to pick up a port/stern light from walmart for the front. Now, I personally like to use a black light afixed to the top side of the boat near my rods. They do attract bugs, but so do the white lights. You can use any kind of submersible light to attract baitfish, which in turn, attracts crappie and other species. I use clear blue flourescent line on my night rods so the black light will illuminate the line. Doing this, you can see the ever so slightest of hits. It is easier to see the night hit doing this, than it is to see a bite in broad daylight. I kept an LED Flashlight clipped on the bill of my cap for seeing in the boat purposes. Any light this time of year is going to attract insects, and I mean hundreds of them. I keep the flashlight on just long enough to see what I am doing, then switch it off. This keeps the bugs over by the blacklights, and above the water where the submersible is. If the fish are holding around 18', lower the submersible to about 12'. The crappie will be holding at the bottom of the light, and off to the sides to catch the stragler baitfish, but will rarely go into the light to bite. Always wear your life jacket when underway. I love to night fish because of the peace that one can get while on the water overnight.

Hi. I agree with Red, and the Reaper, everybody wears a life jacket, also
make sure you can find the best, most powerful spotlight for seeing clearly
when you are moving in the water. Make sure it's in the millions of candle
power with the light you use, it's even better if you can arrange to have it
hooked up to your battery - if it goes dead. Heck; I even make sure I have a
comparable back up light handy. Moving in the dark is not wise, especially
if you can't see docks, stumps, and or trees in front of you.
    Be careful, and good luck!

Life Jacket, Throw Float, Paddle, Bow and Stern Light, Canister rated for electrical and gas fires, Cooler to put the slabs on ice.
I've done all the fishing I want to do, I'm into the catching.

Ok I was wrong I do have the bow light. Just overlooked it However, when I pull the switch for the lights, nothing. Where and how do I need to start trouble shooting?

    Thanks

You may have a fuse box glen, check there first. Then check the wires on the mount and battery. Next might be the bulb. Has to be one of those. Is the crappie fishing as good on eufala lake as they say. From what I heard, sounds like you can catch quality fish on that lake without looking for them. Was thinking about going down once in spring and having a day on the lake with Huckabee. He's a heck of a nice guy, doesn't mind giving up info.
