Nice weather up here in S.W. Missouri for packing for next weeks trip.
I am headed down to S.E. Oklahoma next Wednesday to fish McGee Creek for 4 days. Just wondering if any of you guys have any advice you can give? I am looking for both fishing and boating safety tips. I have heard that there are some submerged stump fields that can tear up your boat pretty quick if you don't know where they are.
Looking forward to at least some good weather and hopefully a tug or two.
Thanks for any information you can give.
I sure wish I could help you, but I haven't fished McGee creek since back in the mid 60's. Not even sure the place where my grandfather and I fished is part of the McGee creek place you're going.
We had to drive up into the moutains on gravel roads. The spot we fished was where the creek widened out to around 40 feet across and was more like a small pond instead of a creek. We set out a trotline and waded along the bank to take the fish off.
Camped out that night, caught several catfish, and had a really good time. One of the last times I got to spend with granddad before he passed away.
So I wish you good luck on your fishing trip and maybe some of these other members will have some knowledge of McGee creek to share.![]()
Never, never attempt to dry out shad in a $1000 Maytag convection oven......... never!
It's been many years ago but fished a tournament there once and had a good time. Do not remember any water hazards but I never went very far up the creek. It was for bass not crappie with best luck on crank baits along the creek banks then Carolina rigged plastics in the shallow water along the dam end of the lake.
Good luck to you and if you want a change by Saturday load up and drive west to Atoka then turn north on Hwy 69 for about an hour and meet up with us at the get-together.

Thanks for the replies guys! I think we are going to bass fish for a couple of days and crappie fish for a couple. Looking forward to seeing McGee Creek... everyone I have talked to says it is beautiful!
Thanks for the invite to the get-together... if we get away Sat. night, we will come by. It would be nice to meet some Oklahoma Crappie.com members! Have fun!!!!
I will post our results and hopefully pictures of some big Oklahoma crappies!
Thanks again
Throw a Mepps spinner.. you'll catch all the bass and crappie you want on those things in McGee Creek.
