Default Taking the Kids to Eufaula

I am new to Oklahoma and to Crappie fishing, I am going to take my 3 boys to Eufaula tomorrow in hopes of finding some Crappie for my boys, they are still pretty young but LOVE to fish (good news for me)! Anyone have any suggestions? My boys are ages 4, 5, and 8, I would love to find somewhere to put them on lots of fish........

The first place that comes to mind is one of the heated docks at either Lake Eufaula State Park (at the Marina) or Belle Star.

If you wanted free fishing, one of the places I'd try is the Crowder City Park. There is a fishing dock there or you can walk around the cove and fish the opposite bank. There is brush in that little cove marked by a Dept. of Wildlife Buoy.

To get there just go South on Hwy 69, get off at the Crowder exit. You'll have to turn left on the service road and then when you come to the stop sign at the bridge, turn left again. Follow the road around and keep right and you'll go through town. The blue store on the right is called the Culvert Cafe and has food, drinks, ice and bait.

Go past the Culvert Cafe about 1/4 mile and you'll see Crowder City Park on your right. You can probably follow the crowds to the best fishing spots :D

    Good Luck!

I can't think of a better place for your boys to fish than Crowder Park. It's free and plenty of room for them. OkieDon gave you some good advice.
Never, never attempt to dry out shad in a $1000 Maytag convection oven......... never!

Ditto on Crowder park, and they might just catch some bigguns too!

Forgot to tell everyone, I do have a boat so fishing anywhere is not a problem. I had to change plans so I didn't get to take them today, had soccer practice to be home for, so we spent the day at the zoo. Got the boat in the driveway now and plan to leave tomorrow morning, sounds like I'll have to give Crowder a try. How about minnows?? Is everyone using minnows?? I was thinking about slip bobbers for the boys with small 1/8 to 1/4 oz jigs below. Are there minnows available anywhere close?? I sure appreciate everyones help!!

    FishBum,

The Culvert Cafe also has a bait shop. I prefer it to the one on the other side of the road. I just seem to get more minnows and they seem to last longer IMHO.

Slip corks with jigs will work fine. The colors I've been catching them off of lately are a green or chart head with a black and pink Yum Bevertail. I also do well with an Orange head and black and Chart Yum Beavertail.

You can also find those at the Culvert Cafe in Crowder. I believe Todd H owns the whole shebang and he has a good selection of jigs, corks and everything else you'll need.

If you're headed to Crowder, try to get there early. I was there today and it was like a freakin' madhouse!

Also, if you're taking a boat, watch out for the hazard out from the boat ramp. You'll see two buoy's marking the hazard, but it runs to the South for a long ways. In fact, all the way over to the shore on the other side. You'll be in 15 feet of water one second and the next you're be dragging your lower unit. Seriously, take it slow and watch your depth finder!

    Good Luck

OkieDon, I really appreciate all the information, I will hopefully have some pictures to post of some young boys holding some crappie. If so, I will share with the group. Again, thanks for the info!!!!!

    Fishinbum,

Check out my post to Peke in the Eufaula Report thread for info from yesterday. Might give you some ideas to try.

EDIT - I am a goofball at times .. you are likely already fishing by the time I posted this. Oh well ....
