    Default Oklahoma bamboo?

I see alot of posts in the main crappie structure forum of how great bamboo is to make crappie habitat. I don't know about you guys, but I don't see much bamboo growing around the northeast, OK area. Anyone know of a place to obtain bamboo around here?

    Thanks

I'm not 100% positive, but I think what many people around here call "bamboo" is nothing more than what other people call river cane. It can be usually found in bottomland areas along rivers, creeks and sloughs. It grows from 8 feet and up in most areas.

    Hope this helps,

    Donald

George - This is not a bad thing to have bluecats around your boo. They can be added to the freezer too.

    Default bamboo or cane

I have had a lot of people tell me they know where there is some bamboo and when I have got there it is river cane. There is a big difference between cane and bamboo. They both will hold fish but the bamboo is typically a lot bigger diameter and is taller. The bamboo will last longer than the cane also. There are a few places to find bamboo here in Oklahoma but most of it is cane. If I find any bamboo I will let you know where it is.

i know a place in muskogee their whole back yard is bamboo some of it was 30 feet tall last summer, i will check and see what they are going to do with it, it is laying all over the backyard now they cut it all down last fall, my sons and i got 3 stalks last june for frog gigs, and its actually bamboo not river cane some of it had 3 inch or better stalks. i dont know if it will sprout again after being cut completely down, like that, but i know ive seen it there for the last 4 years, i dont know if it was cut down every fall or not, i just noticed it was all cut down last fall. when we got ours we got 3 stalks as long as my extended cab truck we cut them down ourselves green. i will see what they are planning to do with all of it, i may have the mother lode of bamboo, i will check tomorrow and let you guys know.

I have 2 mother lodes of boo. 1 in OKC and 1 in Stillwater. Yes it will grow back after being cut to the ground. In the growing season it will grow 6" - 1' per day. It is hard to kill out once it gets a foothold
