    Default Lowrance Fish Finder

What would you guys recommend for a good mid-range in price Lowrance Fish Finder. I need to replace my old 1997 Hummingbird.

I'm trying to improve my fishing techniques by upgrading my fish finder and committing myself to learn how to fish brush piles.

    Thanks,
    Bill

We'll have a representative from Lowrance at our Get-Together on March the 27th. He's scheduled to give his presentation at 11AM if you're planning on attending.

He should be able to steer you in the right direction and all of us can learn better techniques in using a fishfinder.

    Hope you can make it.
Never, never attempt to dry out shad in a $1000 Maytag convection oven......... never!

Start looking at the HDS-7 or the HDS-8 w/LSS-1. The DownScan feature will make your jaw drop as well as the StructureScan. Both units have same features except the HDS-8 can split to 4 screens. Remember,,,you WILL be splitting screens. HDS-7, $1600 w/LSS-1, HDS-8, $2300 w/LSS-1. <*)}}}><
You'll see the difference,,,on the end of your line!

    Bill,

For most of my adult fishing life, I figured I didn't need high end electronics to find fish. Heck, even the cheapest fish finders will show you drop offs, humps and other fish holding structure. So I saddled myself with cheap fish finders, yes even some costing around $500.

After I moved back to OK, I had time to fish on a regular basis. I decided to get serious about Crappie fishing year round and started researching fish finders. I knew I would need a good one.

Last week I purchases a Humminbird 798 with side imaging, gps and Navionics map. I paid around 1k for this unit. I can honestly say, it was an INVESTMENT well worth time extra time I saved up for it.

It's very easy to use, I figured out most things by just playing with it in demo mode. This morning I was fishing with my buddy and we were coming up a drop off. I told Frank "Get ready, I see fish on the drop off". Then it happened ... "BAM" Two Crappie slamed our Spider Rigged jigs. It was so cool to see them on the sonar then nearly immediately have them hit our bait. The Eagle depth finder on my Console didn't show any fish at all!

I'm no planning on buying a Humminbird 1197 in the next week or so. I can't wait!!!

What I'm trying to say to you in this long winded response is don't rush it. Save your money and get a high end machine, preferably a side/down imaging unit with GPS. You won't be sorry and you won't believe what you've been missing!
