    Default Moon Phase

Anglers take note that Sunday March 7th is the dark moon phase. Be on the water or be square.

CG - My calendar says the dark of the moon is the 15th, and the 7th is last quarter!?!?

BTW - did you get to go to Hugo the weekend following the tackle show? If so, how did it go?

Perch, you are correct about the moon phase. I think George is so excited:D about the sunshine and his trip to Hugo he mis-read his calendar. Not to speak for him, I think this weekend will be his first trip to Hugo this year. I hope he catches a boat load of bigguns.

    Default Moon Phase

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPSSSSSSSSSSSSS I JUST HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!! I be wrong for the second time this year. I thought something looked funny when I read the calendar. The dark moon is the 15th. I did not make it to Hugo yet. I am leaving Friday morning with my wife and going to the Farm. This will be the first time she will get to put her new custom "fissen po" thru its paces made by none other than our illustrious sponsor and all around "good guy" Lip Rippers. I swear this fella is a magician. He can suck more money out of my pocket by just sayin "Here look at this and tell me what you think" He might as well just stick a fork in me then cause I'm hooked for sure.
All teasing aside, Leland's knowledge of rods and actions and his quality workmanship all go together to make a quality package. I appreciate his work, his advise and his friendship. It hardly seems possible that he has put up with me for 1 year now.

So just to refresh...the full moon phase and the dark moon phase are better for spawning? Just how important is it? Just curious because I haven't had a lot of experience fishing for crappie during the spawn. Does this mean you won't find any on the beds in between these phases, or just that it tends to draw them in even more when it is full or dark? Also, which would be better, the days leading up to or the days after a full or dark moon?

    Thanks for everyone's input.

You will find 'em on the banks between phases when the other conditions are right (air temp, water temp, wind, baro pressure, photo period, etc.), but their seems to be heightened activity around those two phases. By all means, I would not rearrange my life around the moon phases; they are not a guarantee. That's why they call it "fishing" as oppossed to "catching!"
Jeremiah 16:16a "But now I will send for many fishermen," declares the Lord, "and they will catch them."
