midwest crappie show Reelfoot
Capps and Coleman on Reelfoot fishing shallow just 6 days after the cove was frozen over and a 40mph wind howling. Not a green leaf or dogwood bloom in sight. Todd H. mentioned at a seminar during the Green Country Tackle show that it was time to start looking shallow way back in the creeks for the biguns.

It only hung up once while playing for me. Took a few seconds for it to start again.
Regarding the show itself vs what Tood was talking about, I think the important thing to remember was that on the show, the water temp in those Cypress trees was 60 degrees even though it had been iced over a week before.
I visited the backs of some coves and creeks on Gibson shortly after Todd's seminar and never found it above 52 degrees in about 3 foot of water. And that was rare, most places at the back of the creeks were still in the mid to high 40's.
I'm headed to the Crowder area in the Morn, hope to find some of those slabs back in those creeks :D

Tell us what Todd said about those fish this time of year. EB

I liked the video but.....they took WAY too long to get those fish into the boat, maybe just camera fodder. I dont see how they keep from losing 1/2 of them. Try that here on the big-E and see how many you land!

He said he would be headed up into Rock Creek within two weeks after the show (Green Country Tackle Show). He sugggested going up the creek until you had trouble turning your boat around, if you wanted to catch some biguns.

Drags at home, works fine at work. Depends on your connection.

Rock Creek Aventure
Brian, what Coyote said. Todd said that if you wait until everyone else is lining the banks and jerking them in, then you've missed the big Gals. Also said those fish should be in a foot or two of water way back in the creeks.
Someone needs to give those Slabs a copy of his seminar :D
Well, I went down there today, way, way back up Rock Creek. Never been that far up and I'm not sure how much further it went, but the warmest surface water I found was 48 degrees at around 2 O'clock.
There was some current in the creek and it was murky. Actually, come to think about it, the color was better there than out in the lake...not sure why.
Tried slip corking jigs and minnows without any luck. Left my Spider poles home so I wouldn't be tempted. Should have taken them!
Also broke a B'n'M pole today!
I was trying to get my minnow unhung and it just splintered about the 2nd or 3rd eye from the end! Now I have no excuse to put that reel on Lelands rod and give it a try :D
I was also trying out my new Humminbird 798. I'm sure once I learn how to use it, it's going to be the bomb baby! Best finder I've ever owned. Can't wait for a 1197!
I did talk to some guys leaving who said they caught around 20. But they didn't say where or with what. I saw them rigging up Driftmaster spider rigs when I pulled up this morning and this afternoon I saw them coming back from the Blocker area. So I'm guessing they spider rigged around the bridge or further up, but who knows.
And for the last story of the day, there was a pontoon boat unloading with three guys in it. I asked one fella at the dock if they did any good. He said that he'd gotten drunk and passed out on the boat. His words were "I didn't catch any fish, but I did catch a buzz!"
