Please help the new guy
Went to Oologah today. Fished brush piles in the spencer creek and goose island areas, fished in 20 - 30 FOW. We tried tube jigs in blue and white, red and white, red and char., purple, and bobby garlands baby shad in electric chicken, even tried some hand tied bucktail jigs. Never even got a bite. Please help what are we doing wrong we dont usually fish this time of year.

no we didnt try minnows.

I don't usually have very good luck this time of year either. Normally I will wait until there has been about two or three days of warm weather in a row during late winter/early spring and then go fishing.

Were you marking fish on your sonar before dropping on em? Also when they have lockjaw you can try swimming your jig from side to side slowly. Most things that you do with water temps this low will be done slowly. Sounds like you were using the right lures...What was the water temp??

yes we seen lots of fish on the sonar in all the piles we fished. the water temp was between 36 and 42 all day long. we didnt try swimming them at all but the wind was picking up so we had a really hard time staying on the piles.
thanks for the help

The boat movement with the wind could have had a little to do with it. Most of the fish i've been catchin were caught deadsticken the rod and swimmin it real slowly from side to side. Sometimes that can make all the difference. I definetly would try em again tomorrow and take some minnows to. Also get some berkley crappie nibbles, sometimes I cant buy a bite without em.

I have often thought about trying some nibbles but didnt know if they really work or not. What color nibbles work the best.

I use more chartruse nibbles than any other but keep white and pink on hand.

Brian, it was a tough day on Oologah yesterday for me also. We fished the south end all the way to Goose Island and caught about 30 fish and had 7 keepers. I probably saw you out there somewhere. We marked fish several places also and couldn't get them to bite. Go to the Oologah report and read how the bite has been the last couple of months. The winter is a good time to fish, just keep after them. Welcome to the board.
