With the water being high and the wind being minimal, I've been launching lately at Hawthorne hunting some new areas. I've fished three times within the last week and have come across some promising areas. The dinks have been many, the keepers are few.
The lake dropped over a foot in a two day period and it seems like no place has been consistant.
Yesterday the twins and I fished areas I had never tested. We came out of it with one keeper about 3/4 lb. Felicia thought she was hung up and gave me her rod. I thought she was hung for a sec, then I felt the tug. Her rod doubled up and the fight was on. I gave her the rod back, and she brought up a drum that went in the area of 5lbs. I tell you, that girl has not shut up about that fish yet. It made her day for sure, while her sister was sick and tired of hearing about it.
We tried some of my older regular haunts when launching at Hawthorne, but came away empty. The other twin boated the biggest Crappie of the day, one that was a tad bigger than my keeper. Not enough keepers to clean so we released them for another day.
I have a feeling the fall bite could happen as soon as the lake settles down.
Felicia now wants to catch a 5lb Crappie. I told her that would be great and that she would become famous overnight.
A penny saved is a Congressional spending oversight.
Good job, Reaper.

Been up to Oologah twice this weekend and have not done any good myself either. My friend is really good up there usually. We started at spencer and worked our back to the ramp at red bud today and only caught two, killed a seagull with the trolling motor running across lake that was a first! I having always focused on bass but now I am really getting into crappie. I thinking of hitting Claremore this afternoon since it won't be affected by the water level. Would you happen to know of any spots to try?
hey, welcome to Crappie.com

Meatgetter Jigs is on Facebook!
Put in at Hawthorn bluff sat. 9am fished till 1pm. Lake up 4 1/2' water almost muddy wind out of north then NE, Fished brush piles w/ minnows, some jigs did not get a bit. Did not see one fish being caught.
I'm new to this type fishing, have a gps with lots of Corp. brush piles on it. Have 2 eagle 480 fish finder on a 17' I/O boat that catches a lot of wind, but having trouble finding brush piles and staying on top of those I do find. Is this just life? Or maybe someone could throw me a few pointers.
Still enjoy being outside and on the lake.
I'm a retired male who could use another male partner to help catch the fish I enjoy seeing someone else catch them even if I can't. Have a wife who likes to fish but is a fair weather person.
Also like to fish southern parts of Eufaula.
May the fishing get better before spring spawn.
