    Default Fort Cobb Lake Story

Since there is not much action here lately with the exception of lipripper, thought I would fill some space with a story.
It was a beautiful day - a couple of days ago - so rigrunner and I went fishing for "anything" really. Well "anything" was not biting so he decided to throw the net and catch some shad for jug bait. I am not really hot on jug fishing for I would rather pole fish and enjoy pulling in those slippery fish. Anyway he was doing very well netting shad until I saw some beautiful red flowers on the overgrown bank. Naturally he went in to get me one but the boat could not get near the shore. So he jumped in, shoes, socks and jeans and got me a red flower. Back to the netting for more shad. Now he was wet but decided to go back to fishing. Started out across the lake but the boat was not running as usual and seemed rather slow. Then I hear him say " Hey, we have had the anchor out all this time..no wonder I could not get to shore...we have been dragging that thing around for the past hour." I often wonder how he found his way around the world in the oil field for 20 some odd years

It's a good thing he didn't hang something big while trying to get up to speed. That might have been bad news. Could have really done some damage to the boat and maybe the two of you.

I really know what he was doing. He has been hounding you to buy a new boat and you have told him no many times over. So he figures you know if I leave the anchor out maybe I will hang up on something and it will tear the boat up to the point I can get a new one. LOL Just Kidding with ya Southern Woman.

Really he was using the anchor to catch the big one there in Ft Cobb. You know like in the movie Crumpy Old Men always trying to catch Catfish Hunter. He has dreamed and heard about the big boy that looms in Ft Cobb and he has set out to drag him in.

That sounds like something I would do! My problem with anchors has been trying to get them "un-hung" we almost ripped the cleats off the toon one time trying to free an old navy anchor. Another time we had to cut the rope as a storm approached. Only reason I'm on here with fishing pics is everyone else is gettin ready for deer huntin. But they are here if I want some. Glad you guy's came out alright on that deal.

You are right about deer hunting. We have them in the yards here and our Texas home but on our wildlife farm, we have the big ones. Rigrunner is getting ready for hunting too but fishing is really in his blood. By the way, he was using the trolling motor while dragging anchor for an hour and when he tried to go across the lake with the big motor is when he discovered his embarrassing situation. I told him I was putting it on Crappie.com and a new diamond ring might stop me but alas, no new ring.

Yeh, he really wants a pontoon boat - maybe if we can find a nice one. But he could tear that one up too. I will kid him about that anchor for years to come. Poor guy...lol

I've been shut down for weeks on my building project due to all the rain. Does anyone remember a wetter August\Sept than this one? Tulsa weatherman said there had been 21 days of rain so far in September. Its raining this very moment and I can't do anything more on my house until I've had a few days of sunshine to dry up this mud bog.

So, I have decided to refocus on fishing and I am currently having a new bimini top put on my pontoon boat. Bout time I caught some crappie and I plan on starting back this weekend.

Gonna buy a new slicker suit too and if it rains, I can fish. I know they're out there........ just waiting....... :D
Never, never attempt to dry out shad in a $1000 Maytag convection oven......... never!

That's a funny story. My old fishin buddy tends to forget things similar to that too. Not calling Rigrunner old or anything... j/k

Speakin of my buddy, he called me at 7AM yesterday to see if I would go with him... I didn't answer the phone b/c my girlfriend was in town and it was hard to care about much else, but man, I wish I would have gone. I called him back, and when he answered, the first thing he said was, "Boy, you need to let that girl alone for a while and come do some FISHIN! I mean, you ain't had time to do NOTHIN! I caught a limit of goodens out in the sticks at Carl Blackwell."

With school and Kasie and football games and a big lack of $, I don't see much fishing in the future, at least until later next week. But they are biting at Blackwell and McMurtry from what I hear.... I have a paper due Friday and another due Monday and the LSAT to study for.....
