Has anyone built any river cane huts and if so what have you found to be the best way in doing so? Do I need to let the cane dry out before I put them to use? I plan on using 5 gal. buckets for the base. I will add about 20-30 stalks of cane to each bucket and then fill it with some gravel and topped off with a little concrete to seal the gravel in for wieght. This will help cut down on the cost. Planning on putting about 2-4 huts to an area. Depths will very from 10-25' deep. That way I should cover my winter time fishing and my spring fishing areas.
I plan on trying this out on Lake Tenkiller to see if maybe I might be able to get some crappie in the freezer from there, since the fishing has been so bad the last two years.
CJ - I would put them in green since they are already full of water.
Yeah they work fine, I've made drive in beds out of e'm and bundled them like you described. I dont know if drying them is needed or not, might check the archives on this subject.

I have tried these and caught fish but where I put them the blue cats loved them finally gave up on them
I know the guys in AR love them. They all put them in green. They put them in buckets the same day they cut 'em. Let the 'crete dry a night or two and sink 'em.
Jeremiah 16:16a "But now I will send for many fishermen," declares the Lord, "and they will catch them."
