Default Question about hand held GPS devices

Never used one, but have been looking at the Trex version.

Is it possible to input coordinates in it and if give you directions to get there? For example, if I took the coordinates for a brush piles, input it in to the GPS, I'd get a line taking me to the spot?

I am unfamilliar with the trex. I have a lowrance. I can input coords into it. As for a line taking you to the spot. I think you would have to tell the trex to do so, otherwise you could set it to follow an arrow or whatever it uses. I can download the coords to a smart card and then stick it in my I Finder, however, it uses a different file than the Corp does, and cannot read the info for the coords. I haven't tried to sit down and figure out why, nor do I really care. I normally use it to mark certain areas I find on my own, or structure I drop off.

I wish you luck.

Reaper, what is the model number of the until you have? I'm not dead set on the Trex, just looking at the options since I've never used one before.

Mine is just the basic I Finder. They make the same unit with lake maps, water proof and it's called the I Finder H20. I am pretty sure any of the units, etrex, lowrance, will do what you are wanting it to do. They are battery eaters and I keep rechargable AA's for mine. I also take a charged set with me for a back up.

Crappiedentist rigged a setup on his boat to run an etrex I think. Gps Batt, Eliminator Pics

Unfortunately, the link he had the pics at crashed and they are lost. It was nothing more than the base charger mounted in his boat, but it looked good.

Have you considered updating your boats electronics to one including a GPS?

i have a trex I do not think you can enter the coordinats, you can very easily mark way points and it has a nice automatic trackback feature

its a very basic gps but is very effective

the batteries will last over 20 hours with the light off, I use nimh rechargeable batteries

I have a GPS on my Hummingbird 383c, the thing I like about the etrex is if I go on the 4 wheeler I can go anywhere and not get lost, same walking through woods you don't know

Lowrance H2o is a pretty good choice.

Thanks for the info guys.

This was what I was needing, to see if I should go with a good hand held or just dive in a buy some new electronics for the boat. Now I just need to decide which route I want to go.

I'm doing the same thing. Think I'm just going to stick with my fish finder in the boat and buy a handheld to bring along.

I have a garmin 72 and really like it. But I've seen the 76cs and it is incredible how fast it updates when moving real slow.

I have one like hes holding in the picture, have had an etrex legend,( which at $149 is well worth it and you can find them on sale at times for 99), it was stolen not long after I got it, and I now I also have an etrex legend C.(Why do the color versions get about twice usable time from batteries?) Personally I think this line is hard to beat. They are easy to use and have everything I think one would need.....my 2 cents.
