My dad and I hit up a creek in the Markland Pool yesterday, in Union, KY and fishing was awesome.
I did this about a month ago too and had great results. We fished about 1/2 mile up creek. Water stained. It was muddy closer to the river. We set up in on a a downed tree and fished there for most of our 5 hours. Started out fishing about 8-9' of water and were catching good numbers, but lots of dinks too with an occassional 10-11". We moved out a bit deeper along the same tree to 12-14' of water and found the bigger crappie. Biggest was almost 14" (in not-so-good picture below) but lots of 11" - 12.5" crappie.
Water temps were 43 degrees which surprised me. I know we've had some cool nights but thought the temps would be a bit warmer. They weren't chasing anything. But once you got the jig close by, they thumped it hard. This is my favorite type of fishing. Heavy brush. I got lots of practice knot tying
This is my favorite time of year to fish.
