A buddy of mine who works in the world of finance was telling me that America is due for another depression. He also said that, of course it would be difficult, but a depression could turn things around for the country. I hadn't thought of this, but with oil prices soaring and causing businesses to go under, it would eventually be cheaper to PRODUCE things in America again. In other words, for the first time, industry could return here because it would be cheaper to make things here and not have to transport them....even with child labor over seas. don't know. Just an opinion.

That is exactly what is happening with the company I work for, & that is the reason they give. Since December 2001 when the plant where I worked for 30 years closed down, they have closed plant after plant, laid off thousands & moved 90 percent of our production overseas. I was lucky, I was able to keep my job, moving from plant to plant as they were phased out. Now for the past week I have been helping to get one of those plants, the only one that hadn't been sold yet, ready to re-open. They are also bringing some stuff back to be made in the one remaing plant that was still in operation. It remains to be seen how this will work out & how long it will last. I just hope it is not too little, too late.

Recessions and depressions are what are known as corrections in the market. They move most of the time in 50 percent moves of the last move up or down. When the correction finishes and the market goes back to its trend move, the market is usually in better health. In other words the correction cuts out the fat or less productive businesses. the strong survive. hopefully We are in a healthy correction and not in a change of trend. CF
