I agree completely. I dont claim to know much about politics but it seems blatantly evident even to a dude like me with what little savvy I have, that
the corruption and power that are so firmly in place in the upper echelon of our federal gov't are such that no honest man with good intentions can even
get a look at the ladder it takes to climb to become president, let alone get on a rung or ascend to the top. Big $ and lobbyists seem to control our destiny and it will probably take granny git yur gun & a good civil clash before it will ever change, if it ever does. WE are no longer THE PEOPLE.

Yep, and most honest people couldn't be hog-tied and MADE
to get into that sordid mess in the first place.

One example I think of is Colin Powell - I don't pretend to know all
about him, but do think he's a pretty stand up guy - and seems like
he ran the other way when talk about him running for pres. came up.
Not that I blame him...

Maybe I'm just not getting it. Would someone please explain how opening up more off shore drilling areas is going to help lower the price at the gas pump if we are already at max refining capabilities. Won't that extra oil just be exported and sold on the world market bringing even bigger profits to the oil companies? Since we are pretty much maxed out on equipment and personal how long will it take to get that oil to the world market, and will it be enough of an impact to bring world prices down? With all the fault lines off the west coast isn't it pretty risky to have wells there? Why do we have to give the oil companies the big tax incentives to drill? Don't they make enough profits off of us to pay for there own drilling? And why don't they drill on the rest of the areas they have available to them for drilling? These are just some of the questions I have. I'm all for it if it means a significant price reduction to help relieve the financial strain that so many people are living under with the high fuel prices we are paying. So far I see it as just a way to for the rich and powerful to get richer and more powerful. Since the oil companies lobbyists want it so bad It really makes me skeptical.

I think if they allow the drilling that big oil wants, they should attach riders that force the development of more refineries under the clean air act stipulations. Make 'em spend a little of those profits to "stimulate" the economy.
