Default WOW What An Honor

A little over a week ago, the elderly Gentleman (89 years old) that I have become very close to and help out as much as I can, got a call from a fella he knows about a trip for WWII Vets to Washington DC. The trip is totally paid for and they were only chosing 50 from this area. He got the application a few days later and I filled it out for him. Well Friday he got the letter saying he was one of the 50 that were chosen. He came to me and was worried about how the cows would be taken care of (Yes he still plows fields and tends to cows). I told him that he had nothing to worry about on that. I will be taking him to Amarillo in Oct. for a Media event the day before they leave and then he will be off. He is excited and I am almost as excited for him lol. That is an Honor for these people to do and I myself will be the next person to donate to them and also I will be calling to try and volunteer. Anything we as Americans can do for our Veterans is an honor. Here is the website and also a pic of me and him by his kind of old truck.

You are lucky to have such a friend. It's a good thing you're doing, being such a dependable support system. My dad served, came back with a glass eye. My father-in-law survived Batan, but spent 5 1/2 years in a japanese prison camp as a POW. They never got the type of recognition that I hope your friend will receive. Both have been gone now for over 25 years. Tell your friend how proud I am of his generation, and thank him for his service to our country.

You are setting a fine example for your children

At 89!!!! Wow. I would hope to be in that gooda shape at 89. But I suppose the reality is that most of us will be pushin' up daisies long before that age.

This is such a special relationship for you and you know it. Thanks for sharing it with us...and please tell your old buddy that I thank him and his generation for their outstanding and glorious sacrifices for this country. If It wasn't for him I'd probably be writing this in German, or Russian, or Japanese. <><
