Default Your college kids

Well I just got home from taking my daughters things to college. Of course the dorm room looks like crap...she was excited though. I'm really having a hard time with this. I cried like a baby. All the emotions..this ole stiff neck fellow..i'm going through is painful. She is our only child and we have put evey ounce of energy we have to her well being. I am excited for her, just scared. Heck she ain't a hundred miles from the house and I feel she has left the country. Love is painful.

Anyway, how did you fellows cope with chrildren leaving?

I know what you are going through and it is a hard thing to cope with. With daughters you worry about them every minute of the day and night. When my oldest moved out it was like losing my arm. I don't think anyone can tell you how to cope with it, you have to hope she has took in all the you have taught her and realize that she is now starting her own life in this hard world. Be there for her when she needs you. After some time goes by you will realize that she can do it on her own. Love is painful and as a dad we think we have to be there for them to be alright. She knows you are there for her. Hang in there.

I can't wait for that day. I might just leave first.

Only daughter, 1990, 70 miles away. Been there. Don't worry.
If you cared enough to feel the way you do, then you probably raised her with enough good home training to prepare her to face the world. We all know that day will come, when it is time for them to leave the nest and fly on their own. You'll relive some of these same feelings when you walk her down the isle one day, and by that time you won't remember today. It'll be OK. She'll do fine.

And the best part now is.... house to yourself for you and your old lady.
Go fishing and trust her,

I can relate somewhat. In Aug 2005 took our middle son and dropped him off at a hotel so that he could be at the MEPS station the next morning and then to boot camp. Found out is sure is hard to drive out of St. Louis with tears in your eyes. If that wasn't bad enough, had to do the same thing in May of 2006 when our oldest son decided that he wanted to join. Still was hard to get out of St. Louis though.

Bad thing now is that we live in Missouri and one is in Norfolk, VA and the other is in Bremerton, WA. Guess they decided not to make it easy on us.

I guess I can stop crying over mine and cry for yours. I somehow have forgotten all the guys in here who have youngons in the military. Now I feel like an idiot. Thank them for their service for me. My problems are miniscule compared to you and others....
