Dang, that's COOL! Don't think it's for me, but it's for sure different.

Carp fishing is BIG, real BIG across the big pond. I recently watched some kind of Carp Tourney from over there that was staged around a pond about an acre in size. They chumed the water using sling shots, weighed fish ever so often. There was a large crowd of fans watching. It was strange, but interesting. I can't blame the guy for having that done to his body. Sounds as if he wanted to give back to the sport he so dearly loved.

You should have seen my wife's eyes when I showed her this. She reminded me that funerals are for the living, the dead don't care what is going on.

You probably saw a "match" on a "commercial fishery". Commercial fisheries are like pay lakes here in the US, but are generally managed much better. They run 5-hour tourneys or "matches" on a daily basis (sometimes twice a day.)

There is a limited number of matches held in the US, mostly in the Chicago area. I have fished a few, but it's been awhile since my last one. The top match guys are VERY good fisherman. If you search for "Bob Nudd" on Youtube, you will find some instructional videos he did on long pole fishing. He's a 4-time world champion.
