Default Drill bit

I need a drill bit that will drill through a computer hard drive.

When my employer replaces computers we are required to remove the hard drive and drill a hole in it. I sometimes find I have 50 or 60 hard drives at a time and a Titanium bit will only last for 5 ot 6. Is there anything more durable on the market today?

Lightbulb helpful hints ???????

It might help you use some oil on the drill bit when drilling into the case.

Use a drill press,
fasten the hard drive to the table,
then place a spot of oil where the drill bit tip hits the outer cover
and proceed to drill away.
While drilling at a ssssllloooww (SLOW) RPM
continue to add a drop of oil every so often to help cool
and lubricate the drill tip.

I case you are using a hand drill, just be sure that the hard drive is secure before drilling. This will keep the hard drive from catching on the drill bit and spinning out of control.

I am sure that you are aware of the safety aspects of drilling, but I just wanted to highlight them in case others wanted to use this same idea in disposing of their hard drives.

Tell your company to get a De-Gauze the hard drives it wipes everything out permanently NEVER GET IT BACK!!! Government computers have to be done this way before they can go to salvage.

If that will never be an option try to find a better bit I guess

Hydrochloric acid should do the trick.
What we do here is use KillDisk on the drive. It writes zeros to the entire drive. Do it more than 3 or 4 times and only the best recovery software can get anything. Do it 7 or more and nobody, even the government can get any data off it.
Or just use a 10 lb sledgehammer.
