Default Business Owners or someone that may have information

Fire Prevention Week is coming up soon and I usually teach Fire Prevention to our Pre K thru 5th Grades here at Paducah School. This year I was wanting to go farther and offer Smoke Detectors to people here in town who do not have them. Myself as well as several other Firemen will put them up in the peoples home as well as instruct them on proper times to change the batteries. What I was wondering is are any of you Business Owners willing to donate Smoke Detectors to the Paducah Volunteer Fire Dept. or does anyone know of any Grants that may be out there to get these. For those of you that dont know the reason why you need a Smoke Detector is when you go to sleep, sound is the only sense that you still have. Your sense of smell also goes to sleep. So therefore when your house catches fire and you dont have a smoke detector, the carbon monoxide builds up and you go into a deeper sleep and thus die. That is what kills more people in house fires. Please PM me if you are interested or have info and I will give you our Fire Departments address. Thanks

Side Note:

I go to church with a firefighter. He said that he had been to a seminar where they told them that children can't or don't hear the tone that smoke detectors make. He said that he was skeptical of the info until the other night when all of his detectors went off due to a low battery. Neither of his two small children stirred. Interesting. I don't know if anyone else has heard of this??

That is interesting but its better than nothing. Like I said in the post, your sense of smell shuts off when your asleep so a sound to wake someone up is always good. Also you change your batteries in your smoke detector 2 times a year. Most recommend when you change your clocks for daylight savings time weather they need it or not.

Hey father of 4 I will look into this for you here in Georgia. I am a retired firefighter and I know how important they are. I will definately get back with you within the next couple of days hopefully with the info you need. Full speed ahead and GOD bless you.

I thought it was exactly the opposite. My son has a ring tone on his phone (very high pitched apparently) that he and his friends can hear, but I, and people of my generation can't.
