Our County taxes vehicles which are less than 5 years old. My question is how can they legally do this since when you buy your vehicle, you pay tax, title, and liscense. It has been going on for a few years now and any SENSIBLE (please) opinions on this would be greatly appreciated as well as any of your experiences with this if your county has also done this.

All I can say is welcome to America. I pay personal property taxes on things I own. Vehicles, boats,boat motors, ATV's, motorcycles, anything one might think as a luxury. Now I do believe we..Arkansas cave dwellers...have opted out of paying for our furnishings in our home..I do remember when I assessed our personal property they asked how many rooms in our home, they furgured if you had 3 rooms you furnished 3 rooms, though I think that has been abolished. Really I can't remember. Seems my taxes go up when the crap I own gets older, hail, we got to feed the lazy some way. Don't get me started on State Taxes. Federal tax.FICA,Medicare, you boys want all this to go up, VOTE OBAMA...
As Blugilll stated, here in Va we have and will always, pay tax on everything that can be registered, put on the road, put on the water, put in the air, harvest crops, has an engine, has wheels wings or hull. If the DMV or the county knows about it, they tax it. In fact they even do checks on registered property. They even attack canoes if you use and electric motor on it.

How many times should you be taxed for an item? Your taxed when you purchase the fishing pole you have. Should you pay a usage tax every year you own it? Same goes for almost everything you buy. Should you continue to pay a tax on those items every year you own them? Once and done!

I was going to say the same thing. Tax on the taxes we pay is about the only thing they haven't taxed yet. (Or at least we don't know about it yet) I find it very odd that a majority of politican running for office say they are going to reduce taxes if elected. They get elected and nothing happens. If a majority are saying that then why can't they do something about it.
Of course I am not that stupid to think their promises to get elected are what they intend to do in the first place.
I say that if a politican promises something to get elected and does not deliver in say 1 year we should impeach their behinds and get someone that will.
