Default Euthanizing your dog

I have a pet that I have had for 11 years now. She's nearly blind and has a form of cancer that the vet cannot treat. (And I can't pronounce) He said she should live another year maybe. However, she is "not in the guidelines for when we euthanize an animal". So she suffers every day. And I really don't know what to do. No way could I put a gun to her head. But if I could give her a pill or feed her something that would just make her go to sleep and not wake up, I could do that to ease her misery. This is not a dog that I can't afford or don't have room for or whatever. It's one that isn't sick enough for the vet but isn't healthy enough to have a happy life. I really don't think she's in constant pain, but you can tell she's miserable. Any suggestions?

Hardest delima Ive ever faced. Had a coonhound that I hunted actively....needed emergency surgery, and would survive, but wasnt sure if he'd have the ability to make a recovery. Natural instinct to hunt, so couldnt stay out in the yard, and didnt have the heart to make him live in a kennel forever.......I still ponder if I made the right decision.

Follow your heart.

Took my dog to human society, was hard to do.
It was free.........talked to them before I did it.
What they did was gave him a shot, that was
painless.

As mentioned was hard, waited 7 years before
we got another one. That was huge mistake.

Her is our love, he gives, and takes our love.
He will be a year old this Sept 17th.

His name is "Willie" named after my dad,
which dad's friends called him "Willie"

Like others have said you should see another vet that will administer the proper shot to ease their exit. I had a golden that had a untreatable cander that was 13 years old. The vet put him down right in my arms. Hardest thing was to decide when the right time was. Chestnut would have good days and bad but it became quite evident when it was time. Im having a hard time writing about it since I loved that dog so much and it has been years ago. Still think about all the good memories he left me with. I have another one now and am glad I do. You will know when its time. It becomes evident when there just isnt enough quality of life left there and its the humane thing to do. Let the Vet take care of it for you but make the decision for yourself when to do it. You will know. May the lord comfort you through this time. Dogs give so much more than they take!

Here's your 3rd vote for another vet. If you can find an older "country" type vet, I bet he'd sympathize and help. You know your dog way better than any vet does, and most would trust your judgement.

I have to agree here. Get another vet.
Our pet become part of our families. We had to put down a dog about five years ago and it was hard for the whole family. We are now going threw it again with one of our cats. It is tough.

The Lord works in mysterious ways. That is so much better than having to do the other. I had to do it on june 3 to my Yorkie, was a sad day...still is.
