    Default Truck tire?

Last year I bought my dad's 2001 Tundra it now has 17,000 miles with the original tires. Last week during the state inspection they told me I needed to replace the tires due to their age. When I asked to see the regs they could not find anything in writing in the Va regs, so it went from a requirement to a recomendation. The guy started saying due to ozone damage the sidewall could blow out. There is no visoble cracking, I can't see replacing them with good tread. I don't do any heavy hauling and all I tow is a 14' jon boat total weight with trailer is less than 800lbs. Since I'm getting ready to write a check to buy the Uncle Sam a set for one of his Humves, I don't want to replace them till the end of the summer, what do you think?

I would just goto another garage & get a sticker.I've personally never had a garage ask me how old my tires was.

...or at least sell you some tires that you don't really need. If there was some weather-checking or cracking on the sidewalls, I'd want new ones, but to recommend it just because of their age??!!! can you say "commission on all tire sales"?

Tell him the tires are well maintained and that you change the air every 3 months/3000 miles. Then tell him he didn't check your blinker fluid so you want to speak to his supervisor.

I'd just run them till you were planing on replacing them. They can't tell how much tread is left on them when there rolling down the road.
