I took a concealed carry class yesterday. I passed with flying colors. Now off to the County Sheriff dept to fill out the application and do the fingerprint thing.
I have been wanting to do this since the concealed carry law here in Oklahoma passed back in the mid 90's. The day and age we are currently living is full of violent attacks on innocent people. I learned alot from the class and what I can legally do in a particular situation. I also learned what I can get into serious trouble for, as well as some shady areas that would be a District Attorneys call, or a Judges call.
Just wondering if anyone else who frequents this board has their permit, and how it has affected them, good or bad.
I live in Indiana and have had one for 20 years. With it you can purchase a firearm and take it home that day. Some surrounding states do honor Indiana permits,Mich, Ky, OH, Tnn, and probably quite a few more. Il, Wisc, said to leave in the trunk.(go figure.)To pistol hunt here you must carry one.We have still not had a insodent to make them want to tighten up the rules. Michigan state lost in court last year, and now has to issue them to anybody who don't have a record.
I live in VA and travel frequently..I have had a concealed weapons permit for several years..I decided to get one after a close encounter in a rest area..Very scary situation for Doris & me...My answer is:" I had rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6"..

For the most part in NC we have had no real incident's with folks having there conceal carry permits - reason being the only people that is eligible is folks who are not as likely going to get in trouble in the first place - as long as you conduct yourself as a law abiding citizen there is no probable cause for you to be suspected of carrying a concealed weapon - then again if you frequent high crimes areas - go to night clubs and bars - drive fast or wrecklessly - try to be the center of attention and talk trash or run your mouth in a crowd or to the police - yeah you stand a chance of getting frisked for weapons - if you had the class you know where you cannot carry a weapon if you got a permit or not - and if you are traveling a simple call to the Attorney General's Office in the states you are traveling to or look it up on the internet to see if conceal permits are allowed in there states - also some cities may not honor conceal carry permits if the state does - but again obey the law - mind your manners - and you more than likely will not ever have a problem

I had every intention of getting the Concealed Carry license, but the indoor range we had here in town - burned down ! Still waiting to see if they rebuild.
In the meantime ...... ain't no thang - Ky law says you can carry a firearm unconcealed, without a license. (except, of course, in those places that don't allow "deadly weapons")
At least I know, that if I carry my Taurus 357mag ... even if I don't hit what I'm shooting at -- the sound will probably deafen 'em (if the site of it don't scare'em to death) And even if I only hit a leg or arm ... it's probably gone
Seriously though ... if I do get a CC license, I may be in the market for a more easily concealed weapon. ....... cp
I got one too. Kind of like DonG would rather have it legally and live than try to explain to some of the local "rental" cops why you have a load side arm in your car. They think ever one is a meth dealer or gang banger here. Small town want to be a big town or at least the cops want it. Ok sorry got on a soap box there for a second. I got one just so I would be legal to carry one since I did anyway.
Oh CP becarefull you are still responsible for the bullet once it leaves the barrel. I know what you were saying. I hope just pulling it will be enough to scare off someone.

In North Carolina over half the people who take the class are collectors. With the conceled carry permit, you can buy a weapon without the waiting period. Don't know how it is in other States.
if you gotta ccw permit let him know right then - if he is just writing you a ticket or even a warning ticket there should be no problem - now if the officer ask you to step out of the vehicle you need to tell him you have a weapon and where it is at - now if you do not have a conceal carry permit you should not conceal the weapon - but if you have it in plain view it is not concealed - and if you have a weapon in plain view and you get stopped keep your hands where the officer can see them and tell the officer right then first thing I have a weapon right here in the seat - now I am talking about North Carolina - some states you can not have hand guns unless htere under lock and key - if I am not mistaken the ATF website has handgun laws broke down by state - the best policy if you have a weapon and get stopped is let the officer know immediately though

Well that happened to me Beaver some years ago. It was about 15 years ago, because my daughter was a toddler. I live in Arkansas and was in Memphis. I rarely go to Memphis witout my pistol. We were in my wifes car and was having troubles with it overheating, I pulled over in a store to check out why. A police came up and was walking in the store and noticed us and thought he would help. We were talkng and he saw my pistol laying in the floorboard. He did not freak out or anything, but, firmly questioned me with my gun now in his hands. It was unloaded, though I had a quick load by it. He checked me out thoroughly. If it were not for my wife and kid there, he probably have taken me to jail, which he understood why I had the gun. He did ask me politely to get back to Arkansas. Memphis is pretty bad at times.
