I'm with Tom on that one. I'm pretty sure I was catching plenty of Crappie before Wally Marshall figured out he could make a living at it and make it all commercialized. This being the OT forum where one is not expected to discuss fishing, but there is always someone complaining about a thread non fishing related.

All I was basically trying to do at the begining of this thread, was state that I miss the group that used to be active. For those that have been around long enough, you'll notice most hardly ever get online anymore. I don't think we really need a separate members only forum, but, the regular thread killers showed up on this one just like all the rest. One doesn't even have to discuss politics or throw mud, they come out all by themselves. I appreciate the wit and humor of those from the past.

Beav, year round crappie fishing has been going on down south for many, many years...I remember when the Pearl River(MS) was damned up starting in the late 50's to early 60's to create Ross Barnett Res...This is a great crappie lake along with Enid, Sardis, Grenada & Arkabutla...Had a 50's model Harley 125 and a cane pole & a damn good bird dog...Fished all the above lakes..Life was good and it has been that way all the way to my 70th year & still enjoying it....I will admit that sometimes there we mowed the yard so it would look nice for Christmas..

Back then my eyes were better and I did a lot of night fishing in one of the first Skeeter boats...Coleman lanterns extended out from the boat on brackets, metal coca cola coolers and a can of sardines.....Fishing standing timber and the fishing was great..I don't catch the numbers that I caught then but I still enjoy the pursuit of Mr Crappie..

I, like Tom & others come to this site for enjoyment..If I hurt someones' feelings it is not on purpose...I really enjoy the site especially our VA board...

The ways that I fish were taught to me by Rabbit Rogers, Sam Crenshaw(deceased), Ray Boone(deceased),Warren Lowe & Ernest Paty long before joining crappie.com..I think Sam Crenshaw still has some fishing articles in the archives on trolling...

I truly enjoy this site and each of the members & this old dog might learn a few new tricks from some of the youngsters that I poke every now & then..

My best friend rode one of these. Sears Allstate Puch 250. DonG probably remembers this. You could buy them at Sears.

They were "bad" for their time. Another friend had a Harley Hummer 165. We went everywhere on these machines. Had to take oil with us though. All 3 were 2 strokers. This was before there was such as thing as an Interstate.

    Good memories...

Didn't mena to get "off track" Craig.
