Default Hydrofoil

Need pros & cons. Thinking about putting one on my Johnson 140 not so much for hole shot but coming down off plane...My boat seems to just drop when you cut it back and backwash comes in.

Thanks for your input

I installed one a few months back. The thing works. Looks ugly but works. Best money that I spent on the boat to date. I think you will like it.

I have one on my Johnson 90 - Carolina Skiff - works great - helps get up on plane quicker - and when I let off the throttle - front end drops and transom rises - I bought mine at Boaters World for $50 - I really see no cons other than the $ 50

I like it because I can maintain plane at a much lower speed.

I have an 15.5' 1982 Tracker with a 40 hp merc. A very light set up. I noticed when I would turn at WOT the back end of boat felt like it was going to pass me up. I put the Hydrofoil on and my ride is 100% more stable now. I got mine at Academy. Don't remember the price. The only con I'd say was having to drill holes in the anti-cavitation plate to install it. I've heard that they won't make a difference on some motors, but everyone that I know that has one, is pleased with them. Ask the guys on www.iboats.com forum, they can make sure that you are set up properly and maybe avoid the extra expense.

Helps on gas consumption because you can get on plane quicker and you can stay on plane at lower rpms. Given the cost of gas now the savings will offset the cost of buying one.

I forgot to mention Don that it doesn't help me with the backwash when coming off plane. I just got into the habit of giving it a little gas just before the backwash hits. Smedley is right about the turning. It really helped eliminate sliding on a fast turn.
