Default Anyone from Wisconsin?

I've am considering a job move to LaCrosse, Wi from Atlanta, GA.
Atlanta is a great place to live. Best of all your so close to getting into natural areas as their are lots of lakes, streams and rivers to fish and boat.
Being an outdoorsman, I spend as much time as I can in the woods of North Georgia, and nearby N.C. and Tenn.
So tell me the good and bad of living in Wisconsin, esp LaCrosse area.
I lived in Omaha, Nebraska for 6 years before coming to Georgia
so I've experienced midwest winters.
Can't seem to get much information about area on internet.
How's cost of housing, access to and variety of outdoors stuff to do?

I was thru there a few years ago on my way back from SD. Beautiful country up there and the Mississippi river flows right by Lacrosse. Ask a few questions on www.walleyecentral.com Most folks on there are from the upper midwest.

Outdoorman - I have been through LaCrosse several times on my way to Minnesota. It is a very pretty area. I have seen fishing shows on crappie, walleye, and smallmouth bass that featured the LaCrosse area. You should not have any problems finding a place to fish. I wish I lived that close to the Mississippie. It is a good fishery in that part of the river.

i lived in Wisconsin for awhile. If your an outdoorsman, like icecream and cheese, and enjoy to snow, you'll love it. Go ahead and start practicing your musky fishing. might as well take up snowmobiling too, otherwise those winters get really long. Deer season is practically a holiday up there. We used to get out of school a week before the thanksgiving holiday for deer season. It was great. the non-hunters were stuck in school an extra week while I was out shooting guns and running around the woods.

And we act like this Nightstalking thing is new.

For some excitment, read the next verse. A special guest arrived, they filled their coolers and had a fish fry on the beach...in the morning. My kind of people.- Bowfin

Default Wisconsin

Haven't ever lived there but have driven through there a few times on the way to to Ely Minnesota. Very beautiful area with lots of areas to fish. One big plus is that you will be close to Owatonna, Minnesota. In case you didn't know there is a Cabela's just up I-35 in Owatonna. Don't know if you have ever been to a Cabela's before but you can spend hours in this store and still not see everything. I work with some people from Wisconsin and they are very nice and very friendly people. Good luck in your decision.

Default Hope to move back someday

I was born in milwaukee. Then we moved to east central illinois when I was 2 . Lived in this area for the last 36 years. I been back to wisconsin a few times just to visit. I hope to live there again someday. As much beauty as I have seen in the south. The North is every bit as beautiful, as far as the outdoors is concerned. If you can't handle the cold weather I would not recomend it. Not much crime there either and good schools. Wisconsin is all about the outdoors.
