o, I forgot Suzie sure is pretty. We have Brittanys, there is nothing like a bird dog. I have all kinds and even though mine is a pet and has never hunted, she is still a good dog.
nothing beats time on the water
She's a sweetheart. She's half Brittany and half English Setter.Hunts like no tomorrow. But now,I take her fishing with me and she is a bobber watcher,She loves to lick crappies, lol. She will tell you when you are getting a bite, just so she gets to lick it.lol.

yea alot of hunters were frustrated because all the corn was still in.had a few hunting accidents because of it too. its mostly all out now. i was going out to the lake a few days ago and the combine kicked up 3 or 4 birds in front of my car. they sure are pretty birds
Go to the Kansas off topic.
Same here in Southern Middle Tennessee. When I was a teenager (ok, it's been a while) I could quail hunt without dogs. I would just walk fence rows or thickets and kick up enough to shoot. Now, they are all but extinct here. I've been told it's because of pesticides and I've been told it's because of the coyotes (they are flourishing). Don't know which is right, but I do know that the wild turkey population has exploded during the same time frame. Seems to me, if coyotes liked quail so much, the turkeys would be next.....hmmm
BSR
I heard that is caused by loss of habitat, but I think the turkeys have something to do with it, evey since they started to boom, the quail population has declined. I heard that when the turkeys finds a quails nest they bust the eggs an eat them.![]()

Farmers are too good today...Plant & harvest right up to the fence line...Not many small farms anymore..Pesticides, fire ants, foxes, have done the bobwhite in..
I bird hunted and field trialed on horseback until 1979 all over the SE...Very enjoyable...Fishing does not take the place of an old fashion bobwhite hunt with me....I sure do miss it...

I've heard all those theories on why the quail dissappeared, but I don't think anybody really knows. I still ride down the road and spot a field with a good looking hedge row or thicket by it and think 20 years ago you could bet everything you own there would be a covey of birds right there.
Well, come out to Arizona. No bobwhites but lots of quail, bigger ones, too, lol.I grew up in Pennsylvania and always dreamed of hunting bobwhites as a child.Just the thought of it would excite me.Excited me so much, that all my adult life I have had bird dogs of some kind.Mostly Brittanies. Now me and my dog Suzie just think of the days, but she still jumps off the boat at the lake and goes and points a covey of scaled quail every once in awhile.

i grew up in iowa and we would just walk the gravel roads and there was plenty of quail in the fencelines above the ditches.my parents land had tons of quail when i was younger and they have some crp land and it had alot too but my dad said theres no quail on the crp or on the road fencelines anymore i have no idea why they left but some of my best hunting memories are hunting quail. they're quite the elusive creature
