Here's a pic of my volt meter actually hooked up to the converter....



I have the meter set on the 50 scale DC and by reading the 50 scale on the meter it still looks to me like it's reading 22v .....

Am I reading this meter wrong...??

You are reading it correctly. Is there any adjustments on the back?

I think your looking at the wrong line, the top scale I think is ohms, the 2nd. line reads about 125. ( which is really 12.5) I think if you turn your dial to the next scale (250) It would read 12.5. maybe. ( P.S. I'm no electrician, so I might be completly wrong )

When you set your meter on the 50 DCV scale...before you connect the wires...is your meter reading zero? If not you need to turn the plastic screw on the bottom of your meter face and zero your meter....this should calibrate it.....then connect your wires and take your reading. Also....are your leads in the right holes? the black lead on common ground and the red one on DC POS ?

OK..so I checked the manual and made sure I had the leads in the right holes and I zeroed the meter with the plastic screw under the pointer ...

I still reads 22v on the 50 scale......

Just for an experiment I set my dial to 250v DC and the needle moved to read 22v on the 250 scale..

I'm worried if I hook this thing up to a 12v DV devise that 22v would destroy whatever I have it hooked to......

Check the meter by checking voltage on your 12 volt battery.

Genes idea is a good one....check your meter on a 12 volt battery. Then if the meter reads correctly you know that something is wrong with the power supply that you have.

I disconnected all the wires from my starting battery and checked the voltage of the battery.....it reads 16v so I'm thinkin my meter is not right.....

So I went to my nephew's house who happens to be an electrician and he tested this 120vAC / 12vDC converter power supply with his Fluke volt meter....17v DC on his Fluke meter...

17 volts sounds like it could fry a 12v depth finder...CB radio...car stereo...or whatever....

I'm a little wary of hookin this power supply up to anything....

I'm not saying I might not be a little leery of it -
but Humminbirds at least are supposed to be cool with
anywhere from 10 to 20 volts I believe.

This is very possible...but I'm hoping some DC electrical genius will come on and tell me 17v is no problem....
