Dpf is located on the exhaust pipe behind the Catalytic converter. All it does is catch soot. D.P.F. (Diesel Particulate Filter). It is supposed to burn itself out but won't. It is not just my truck either. this has become a major issue for many diesel owners. The trucks will plug up with soot so bad that it will shut the truck down going down the road as it did with me. This put me in a dangerous situation as I was in traffic in town and was crossing traffic lanes with "no power". What happened was that the soot backed up the exhaust until it wiped out the turbo charger. When the turbo locked up, the motor went into shut down to prevent any parts of the turbo being sucked into the motor causing further damage.
I got the truck towed in for the second time. the dealer spent $5000 dollars in parts fixing what that filter had done. The completely took apart the exhaust and "desooted" all parts of exhaust pipe and then reinstalled. That is how they"fix" this stuff. I also lost My vehicle for 3 weeks without anything to drive as My warranty does not cover rental cars.
I am not worried about it now. Problem solved. The wild part about it is My truck smokes less now than it did before. It was not supposed to smoke with the dpf but mine would smoke like a train. Now it is more like my old truck and a little puff, and I mean little, every once in a while. less Pollution now.CF

Do You have the 6.7 or the 5.9? They changed half way through that year to the 6.7. If You do have the 6.7, Do You pull a load around often? That will keep that stuff cleaned out. Will Yours regenerate below 30 mph? Mine will not. That may be a change they made. You can do a search on the Dodge DPF and read about all the folks that are having problems since 07. I am glad You are not having trouble with Yours. It is a real pain in the tail. CF

Since the cure, I have gained 8 miles to the gallon and am getting 23 miles to the gallon HWY if I keep My foot out of it. I milked it for everything it was worth and got 31 mpg. I could not drive like that normally and was just trying to see how High I could get it. One good romp on the accelerator and it dropped like a rock. Normal driving highway will give me 23. Heavy foot and town gives me 18. It will not take long for the cure to pay for itself. CF
