I do plan on running mine as long as it will hold together then may tie it up with bailing wire for years after that. I hope to get this one to last at least until 2015 or longer. LOL

After reading this and talking to owners of the newer diesels I went out and hugged my 2001 and 1995 dodge diesels the 01 has 172342 miles and only trouble was a pump. The 95 has 264k on it and only a headgasket that I know of.And just sold a 1991 with over 300k and a service bed that only had trans. trouble in its rough life.Hope yall figure out something to help get the new one straightened out.

The kits come with fooling electronics that plug into the plug up towards the front of the motor. This is a wire that runs down to the exhaust pipe and plug into the sensors for the DPF that measure back pressure. The only sensor You reuse is the O2 sensor. The electronics part of the kit does come with a tuner that plugs into the port under the steering wheel. It does nothing more than keep the codes clear. Between the two, it fools the computer and keeps it from going into a regen. So yes there is a tuner but it only clears codes that have to do with the DPF and catalyst regens. I have seen homemade DPF delete kits made. The pipes are fairly easy to make. Just need a bunghole added for the 02 sensor. The electronics were fooled by using 410 ohm resisters. Some still had codes showing with the home made jobs but they were making them for 50 bucks and would use tuners that they already had to clear the codes. The kit I am getting will show no codes having to do with DPF function so the computer will only throw a code with something pertaining to another issue on the motor. CF

A friend of mine bought an 09 Dodge with the Cummins a few months ago, we pull a tool trailer to the job on monday and pull it back home on thursday. As of yet, he hasn't had any problems with anything. Now he always runs it with the "Jake Brake" on, this is supposed to help with getting rid of some of the buildup. And when it's gonna be at idle for more than 5 minutes, he does the high idle thing.. where you push the set cruise button twice and it idles it up a couple more rpms.
You can't fish with a hung line!
As Long as He is pulling the trailer, He should be fine. Start going without it and after a while, Check engine light will come on. After that, Its all down hill. Mine started acting up a 15000. By 20000 have had a new Turbo charger, Exhaust completely removed twice to be "desooted", 2 EGR valves, Throttle control sensor, All soot realted injuries that came because the truck will not regenerate. My Dad's won't either so its not just mine. Half of the life of the truck has been at the dealer and I am sick of this crap. Gonna take care of it myself. CF
