I am going back to college and would like to know if anyone knows any good websites for applying for scholarships and grants that dont have to be paid back. Have any of you had success applying for any. I dont qualify for pell this year but hope there may be another avenue i can check into. I dont want any sites where you have to give them credit card info for them to send you the material to apply. I want some legit sites. Thanks for any help in advance.
What field you going into???? My wife went back to school and she received a scholarship from a hospital since she was going into the medical field. She now has to work for that hospital for 14 months to pay off her scholarship.
You need to fill out your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This hooked me up grants, scholarships, and loans.
FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid
You don't have to accept any loans. This thing takes a long time to fill out, but it is worth the effort. It asks you questions about your income, taxes, parents' income (which doesn't apply if you're over a certain age, and that's when you get some good $$$), and a bunch of other stuff.
Fill that out, and there's a number you can call if you have questions, but you're likely to have to wait for a long time. You can message me too and I might be able to help. The thing is is that you need to fill it out as early as you can for the next school year, as there is a limited amount of $$$ available.

alumacraftjoe, i want to get into the medical field, however they make it hard for someone who is older and that didnt apply themselves in highschool to get into the medical field. I am actually taking prerequisites for the medical field but have not yet met enough to put in for any of the programs. I am having trouble with the crazy ACT requirements. So if I get to that point I will check with the local hospitals and see what they offer. OKSTATEjiggy, I am quite certain FAFSA would turn me down. Most all that stuff is based directly off your previous years taxes and all. I would never qualify when it came to that. I took a big buyout from my company last year and therefore it shows I made a whole lot of money. However what doesnt get figured in is that my wife divorced me previous to that and left me smothered in debt. It took my buyout money to get me out of debt but now I have been jobless for 6 months. So I am not so sure that idea would work for me, but thanks and if you have any other suggestions besides killing her lol, just let me know
All they can say is no.[/QUOTE]
Exactly. You never know, you might get a few grand out of it.

... the "medical field" is a pretty big ballpark :D What specific job are you looking to get into (professional, technical) ?? Some require college degrees, some require certification, and some may not require either
Are we talking hospital, clinic, EMS ....... reason I ask, is because the hospital I work at (UK Medical Center) does offer a number of free college hours to employees. There may be a similar program at one of your state hospitals ... and you could work/draw a check while getting your prerequisite courses out of the way.

Best site around for them is Fast Web.com
FastWeb
Some you pay back but the majority are you work for a certain amount of time, and some you don't pay back at all.
Another great site is Fedmoney.org FREE Guide to All Government Grants, Scholarships and Loans for Students (Fedmoney.org)
same kind of stuff as above.
First and foremost YOU HAVE to spend time looking at the sites, write things down, bookmark them and check the requirements. Lots of free money out there but ya gotta take the time to find it.

crappiepappy, I am hoping to get into one of the medical programs at my local community college. No certificates, I want an associate in applied science degree. My biggest problem is getting by the requirements, which doesnt help an older person at all. They make it hard for an older person to get in. We have to have observation hours to even be able to apply for the programs, so I will have to get those for each program of interest. Its hard to get all those hours in for each program and still try to study hard. I want to put in for several programs to make sure I get selected for atleast one. I just have to hope i can meet all the requirements first. I want to put in for Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Respiratory Therapy, and X-ray tech. I havent ruled out the nursing program either considering all the opportunities it holds or males. I just have this fear of needles lol. Thanks for the help everyone.
Check the website of the college you plan to attend. They should have a list of places to apply. Here in NC we have CFNC - Welcome
, College Foundation of North Carolina. Your state might have something similar. My daughter is going to be a teacher, she got $5,000 for agreeing to teach here in this county for 2 years after graduation. Good luck.
