popcorn sutton was a convicted felon who killed himself cause he didn't want to go back to prison. he made shine in the hills of nc and didn't wanna pay those damned revenuers their tax money on his likker.

folks in his parts looked at him as a hero of sorts.

another dead criminal is all. nothing to see here.

Yes, I admired Popcorn and happen to have some of his fine product in my fridge and everytime we see him on The History Channel or anywhere else on TV, we'll take a sip just to remember him. Matter of fact I poured some into a little bottle and put it on my shelf so I would always have some of Popcorns fine fixings. He was a Folk Hero around the North Carolina and Tennessee mountains and so what if he was doing the only thing he knew to make money and provide for his family. At least he wasen't out robbing stores and people because he was too sorry to work like alot of folks out there now. We and my friends take a motorcycle trip to Waynesville North Carolina every year and we've always brought back some of Popcorns happiness. Not everyone who breaks the law is a criminal or every polititian in America would be in jail, thanks for listening to my rant. RIP Popcorn.

I stumbled across a show about Popcorn and just kinda liked the guy. Sure, he was breaking the law, but that's one of those laws that deserves to be broken. Sure, if someone gets caught breaking that law, then they deserve what's coming to them, because it is illegal and they know it's illegal. BUT, he simply supplied a demand. And no, I don't think it's fair to liken this to other things like the dealer of hardcore drugs, because there is a legal aspect with alcohol. He just did it on his own, avoiding the Revenuers and making profit, just as his dad and grandfather did. He didn't really hurt anybody that we know of, just wanted to ply his trade in the hills. I kinda like the guy.
