Thumbs up Apollo 11 aniversary...the REAL moon walk.

I have been inspired all week. Lots of news about the moon. As most know, I worked on the Apollo project.

Astronauts are glorified, but it was the grunts that made the thing happen.

Just like the military, it is the grunts that get the job done, not the generals.

Hail to the grunts of the world and hell to the executive goobers.

    Default moon walk

I also worked on Apollo craft while I was working for Rockwell Int. as Inspector, from 1964 to 1997 when I retired. We got no pats on our back.

Default More ammo for the conspiracy theorists...

on NPR yesterday. I was listening to NPR (national public radio) on the way to work and they were talking with a guy that developed a special video camera that took vids of the walk. Like a lot of stuff, it was left on the moon.

The part that will fuel the theories that we never really walked on the moon was that they have not been able to find the original tapes from this special camera that was supposed to have unbelievable resolution compared to what we have seen.

They have looked for several years for the tapes from the National Archives to private homes based on hundreds of leads. Then just recently NASA informed them that years ago some 40,000 boxes of stuff, including magnetic tapes were removed from the Archives and the tapes overwritten because "there was a shortage of magnetic tapes".

Anyway I am not one of those conspiracy theorists, but it will be interesting to watch the media on this one.

BYW Tom now all your gadgets make a lot more sense. Didn't know you worked on the Apollo stuff.

I can be a bit of a conspiracy theorist at times I admit. The moon is deffinately one of those things that intrigues me. I dont want to out right say it didn't happen cause I been wrong before but I seriously question it based on current science regarding radiation outside of our atmosphere. I didn't know you had anything to do with this Tom. Without insulting you (hopefully) do you believe it 100% without a doubt that those guys didn't just circle the earth 20 times and then drop back to earth?

You don't sound like you much care for the astronauts and they are the only ones who can definitively say one way or the other. The whole world watched them take off and land again but in between only they know what really happened. That module looked like it was made of tin foil from the videos and while NASA probably has some pretty special tin foil it cant withstand the radiation of deep space. My biggest question about it is this and I will stop.....Why haven't we ever went back with the new technology we have?

Everytime I see footage of that little LEM blasting off the moon's surface with what appears to be a pop-bottle rocket for propulsion, I have my doubts.

And I've always been a firm believer in the moon landings.

Oh, by the way, I talked to a fellow once that claimed he had been part of the Apollo Moon Program. Later I found out he worked for Pepsi Cola and delivered soda-pop to NASA.

But I guess he done his part too...........lol.

Conspiracies makes for good gossip. Reason we didn't go back is Lyndon Johnson spent all the rocket money on welfare programs. Welfare and other giveaways and useless wars became the money consumer and still ranks at the top of budget excess. I have yet to see any one good thing come from other giveaway programs, but I can assure you, you got your moneys worth from the NASA program during the Apollo Project. NASA has ownership of over a 1000 patents. You can drink your own pee thanks to NASA. Rant, etc.

"We the people" lost interest because of the shuttle flop and NASA budget cuts. In other words, money or the lack of it killed all projects.

Reckon we will get anything from our tax investments in GM or Chrysler or other shindigs of capitol hill? Oh. Probably a stronger auto union backed by the US treasury.

I have great respect for all the astronauts. (Whacko Jacko is not an astronaut.)

I can't say for sure if we landed on the moon as I was not along for the ride.

I could care less if anyone believes whether I did or did not work on Apollo project.

I agree that the astronauts got the notoriety/attention, but it took a tremendous amount of effort of the whole NASA organization to make it happen.

One of my science teachers in the early seventies was a retired NASA employee that had worked in Houston at the control center. Extremely bright individual, somewhat eccentric, and often too good to the students, but an amazing amount of brain power! I really enjoyed him.

I believe it happened. Every country and individual with powerful telescopes and tracking equipment would have cried foul if they suspected we did not actually do it!

    Just my $.02...

We can fly around the world and land. Why couldn't we fly to the moon and back, even if it was pure dumb luck!
