Recently, a gentleman from Seattle created a gesture which could be used and has started a movement to get the word out.

Great idea, I like it. When we came home from Nam we usually got the one finger salute.

Myself for years have been walking up to them and thanking them
Sometimes a tear would come into their eyes, mine too

I generally say thanks and shake thier hand.
