Default Tried Simpleman's Home Lake Today

Put in about 10:30 headed upriver. Messed around the main channel and the mouth of some of the big coves. Use most of three dozen minnows getting hits but not catching the fish. I said, darn it. Left one rod minnow rigged..and rigged another with a beatle spin...on another I Carolina rigged a 1/16 motor oil colored jig head pulled down with a 1/4 egg sinker. Headed toward the lower end of the lake, by then it was after 3 pm. Down below the bridge I started picking up some 8 inch or so white bass on the beatle spin. Caught probably 20 or so white bass. I kept throwing them back, cause I wasn't sure about the size limit. Picked up a few small white perch. Got back in one of the coves...and the bait fish was churning everywhere. I weaved back and forth in the cove..picking up one 12 1/2 inch crappie...pig fat, hit the motor oil colored jig. Then picked up three more keeper size crappie. It was getting dark....so I just turned the crappie back in since I only had four.....gonna feed the perch to my chickens. Beautiful day to fish....almost no wind at all.

poppop i don't know whats wrong with them dang fish. i had hit after hit and couldn't keep em on. i finally went to a #4 hook jig head and that seemed to help a little but they just aren't hitting right. they will do that from time to time on the town. i was figuring friday, man i wish i had some minnows, but it sounds like i wouldn't have done a whole lot better. almost no wind at all............must have been like heaven. good post poppop and thanks for giving the town a good going over.

It sure is a pretty lake....marked a couple of spots in the mouth of a small cove to sink some brush the first of the year. Drop off from 14 feet to about 25 feet pretty quick. Should the brush go at the bottom of the dropoff or somewhere on the dropoff itself about halfway down.

about the 20 ft. mark poppop. now after you drop the brush, me,c-more, and keeper will need to inspect the job and of course i will need to run over it with the finder to verifi proper placement. just kidding poppop. i've found at the town, 18 to 22ft. is an ideal depth when you've got structure like that. the cover should go about 20 ft. they will hang out there all year. got everything they need.

Yea poppop, will have to inspect for proper placement, better yet we should all get together one day and sink a few holes.

Thanks Simple....I have read all the postings on crappie condos....but still not clear on how to do it.

Hey C-More I am game.....but deer season has to come first...so the first of the year let me know. I am pretty sure I have a close source of bamboo...if not I have got enough land to cut plenty of small hardwoods, plenty of hickory.

Just keep in mind I have a pendancy for overkill...if I sink one...I will want to sink a hundred.
