Well all i can say is we had ourselves one great big time---got into Morehead City @ 10 on friday night-on the ferry finally @ 2:30 and down the beach we go only to find my brother stuck in his 550 dually---we dug him out several times over the next few hours and finally got him to the camp and i do not want to forget that the rain was coming down and the wind was around 20-25 mph===we finished setting up camp in the dark and in the rain still finally had supper and then we fished---caught several small flounder in the surf and had 8-10 keepers all week--we did go gigging one night and only caught 3 but they were some of the biggest flounder i had ever seen one was 16 and the next 20-1/2 and then the big boy, a whopping 24" long---biggest one i have even seen--he probably weighed 5-6 pounds by the tailweight--we also caught seatrout, blues, pompano, angelfish, spot, puppy drum, whiting, and the occasional skate. We saw a fellow that had caught a shark that was over 6' long---that was something to see---we all ate like we were going to the electric chair--i can't even begin to remember what all we had---even cooked a big bag of crappie fillets one night----i can tell you one other thing too; i kinda got used to that crunch in my food because the wind seemed like it would blow everytime we got ready to eat. At time i thought we were in the desert--at night the sand would blow across everything----i did hook up, on two different occasions, something that was absolutely huge--i had a 10' surf rod with 25# test and i started to reel it in closer to the shore and then bam---it broke me off before i new what had happened. Sure was fun, ready to go back-----Nat, i appreciate the good luck call--i hope that you know who did not cause too many problems while i was away.:D:D

sounds like you had a great time, headed to the beach the middle of the week, sounds very promising.
They both tried to stir it up with really big sticks.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
Great report, I bet you probly either hooked a shark of nice proportions or a carhood ray...

Great trip and good report, thanks....iamfishing
So had the dually guy dropped his air pressure down to around 20 lbs. That is one of the most important things to do before driving on the beach.
That was the first thing we did when we got our truck on the ferry was lower air pressure. Seems like we ran 10-15 psi. Plus I don't know if you guys do this now, but we always ran whatever truck we had on the island in 4 LO
4 hi all the time===that will get you more revolutions on your tires and get you out quicker---4 lo will stick you butt in a minute--only time i use 4 lo is going up a steep hill

Actually 4 low gives more torque to the tires. In sand more torque is a bad thing as the tires will break traction easier and stick your butt up quicker as you point out. 4 hi delivers less torque to the tires and therefore they are less prone to spin in sand. Tire pressure is the most important factor however. Less tire pressure puts more tire surface on the ground/sand and therefore gives more traction for the delivered torque from the engine to the tires. 4 hi works better based on this principle. A friend of mine uses pieces of carpet about 1X4 to place just under a slipping tire when we have stuck up on the outer banks. That carpet has unstuck several 4 wheel drive vehicles at different occasions. 4 wheel drive works in sand only if the tires do not lose traction. If a front tire loses traction and starts to spin all the torque goes to that tire/wheel and it will dig a hole. If at the same time a rear tire/wheel loses traction all torque is transferred to that spinning tire/wheel and the result is two holes and a stuck vehicle. A really stuck vehicle. It will not move in either direction. The carpet laid just in front of either spinning tire, front or back, will give that tire/wheel traction and usually pop the vehicle out of the holes. Carpet works better than boards as it conforms to the sand and offers a rough surface for the tire thread to grab. Hopes this helps. I learned the hard way....Aso you guys had some good+ fishing.......
