Do Any Of You Guys Fish This Pond. Had A Neighbor Tell Me That It Has Some Good Crappie Fishing. Not Sure Of The Spelling. I Think He Said Its A Power Plant Lake.

Simpleman: It is a best kept secret!! Beautiful lake just above Roxboro toward the Va line. I have friends that live on Hyco. Water is warmed during the winter by cooling towers from the power generation. Mighty fine fishing. Smiles, G

Hyco is a good bass lake and average crappie lake. better in the winter. bad thing is they charge you 15.00 to put boat in unless you go with someone with a permit. lots and lots of water skiers and jet skiers. Plenty of docks. Best description of it is a ''party lake''. not worth the drive to me.
ENOMAN:D

thanks folks. sounds like another belews creek. i live 15 minutes from belews and don't go except in the winter because of the traffic.

I have caught alot of fish there in the winter. They do charge $15.00 to put a boat in but I think you can pay $30.00 for a season pass?

fished hyco since before it was opened. fished there 3 days last wk. caught over 100, kept 20 a day from 10-13 inches. most were shallower than 5ft. castin jigs, 1/32 bobby garlands. almost deserted, seen one or two boats a day.

The one year permit is $45 and it runs from Jan.1 to Dec. 31. so wait til Jan. for the best deal. While you're in the neighborhood check out Mayo Lake also. it's the other power plant lake but without warm water discharge.. No charge as of now to launch there.

I've fished it several times in the past.
We actually got into a top water bass bite up there in the dead middle of winter. Frigid day, but we found a warm water area. Great lake. The wind can get pretty bad there, fairly large waves in the winter for small boats.
The best day I had there was back when I bass fished a lot. We got into some "ultra lite" bass, less than two pounds. I caught about 35 in an area no more than 75 yards long. That evening coming back, the waves were splashing good, I had ice on my coat when we got to the dock LOL. It was cold, but the water was warm. Pretty neat lake.

We get on a lot of breakin fish there in cold weather. usually some big whitebass mixed in with the LM. and the crappie limits they started several yrs ago has really improved the average size of crappie there. and all the LM aren't "ultra lite". have caught 2 over 10lb, 2 over 9, 4 over 8 and 6 over 7lbs there in last 3 winters.
