    Default Rhodhiss rod retrieval

Since Chugbug brought it up in his post..........
My 13 year old son fell asleep sunday nite on Rhodhiss. 3 rods W/ minnows on the deck. Fish ran with one, he woke up & grabbed the wrong one, flipping the one with the fish into 32 foot of water, & went right back to sleep. When we left two hours later, I pulled the back anchor up & noticed bright yellow line wrapped around it. To make a long story short, I got my rod back & still had the 9" crappie on the other end.

I saw something like that about 70 miles SE of Charlstown SC and a 50lb Amberjack in a great big ole pond. Both fish and fisherman was suprised and plumb wore out. Its so funny to reel up a rod and reel snaged on your line, get it in your hands and find out theys a fish on the rod you just caught.
Some of the bravest men lay in the ground from Ft Moultrie to Appomattox.

I can actually top the Rhodhiss story.
A friend & I were camping on Jordan in the late 90's, had a fish drag on of my rods into the lake @ 2am. At 5am, I caught a good fish & while unhooking, I noticed a second hook in its mouth with line still attached. Removed second hook & started pulling in the line & got my rod back. The fish had been swimming @ for three hours while hooked, & hit another one of my minnows.
My friend still hasn't gotten over that one. He says I'm a walking example of the old saying.... could fall into a pile of s#!t and come out smelling like a rose.

Heres Mine. Twenty Plus Years Ago In The Dan River. Striper Fishing Was Hot. We Were Fishing Thread Fin And The Guy Across From Us Was Fishing Gizzard. He Was Catching Three To One And We Were Wondering If We Shouldn't Find Us Some Gizzard Shad. All At Once A Rod Shoots Of The Back Of This Guys Jon Boat. Must Have Went Ten Feet. Guy Never Missed A Lick. Got Out A New Rod, Rigged Up And Went Back To Fishing. A Week Later My Bud Was Fishing In The Guys Spot And Catchs A Line. You Guessed It. In Came A Fairly New 5h Millonaire And Rod. I Gave Him 20 Bucks For The Reel And Rod And Used It For Many Years Carp Fishing. Oh Well It Doesn't Sound Like That Great Of Story Once You Write It Down."keeping It Simple"

Well I tell ya...Minnowboy, my fishing partner has the luck of an Irishman at Jordan. In the last 6 months the guy has pulled in 2 rods and reels while we were trolling. Washed them, oiled them and is fishing with them. I think I'll place an order with him and see if he can find me one. Lucky duck.

I bought a five gallon bucket full of rods and reels from a yard sale a couple weeks ago for $5.00...everyone looked like they came from the bottom of the lake. Had one really nice Shimano 2000 open face spinner with nice 6 1/2 shakesphere rod....I tore it down and cleaned it up....this evening. It works fine..but can't get the bail to flip except by hand. There are a couple of Eagle Claw open face spinners in there that should clean up pretty nice to. I can only imagine what is on the bottom of High Rock.

A friend of mine was catfishing on Badin one night and he hooked a good fish and his line broke. He put that one in the boat twenty minutes later and got his hook back. Them fish ain't got too good of a memory do they?

I have two rods overboard stories with a somewhat happy ending. One spring many many years back when I had just started fishing a good bit, only a couple rod holders on the boat,we were cut bait fishing in the wateree river,a fish bit,my uncle grabbed the rod(brand new eagle claw combo spinning outfit, not expensive but it was mine) and it just jumped out of his hands and hit the back deck of the boat,he hollered, get it but it was too late, allready in the water.I had a rod just a little ways behind the boat,I reeled it in quick as I could and casted it,it just did make it over the rod in the water,I reeled in in,looked like I had a biggun, had a boat stop to watch to see how big it was,Roger was all bent over in the water and got the rod, reeled in a 2 foot long channel.Second story was just a few years back at cane creek lake,I could only catch fish trolling one way,so I'd troll, then put the rods in the rod holders and motor back up to the starting spot with the big motor, set up and troll again,,well bout the third time I got in too much of a hurry, hit a wake and the very front rod,12 ft b&m went in the water,GONE,.About two weeks later a freind of mine told me his father had found a nice rod at the landing, when I told him I had lost one he thought I was jokeing,I told him what kind and color jig I had one it.When he visited his father he looked and sure enough it was mine, someone had took the reel off of it and left the rod at the boat landing,he said when he looked at the jig and the way it was tied on he knew it was mine..I am very glad to at least get the rod back,it cost about twice as much as the reel that was one it.I have named that rod "ol lost&found "....sam
