    Default Jordan Labor Day

Well, Today was my second day crappie fishing ever. I was so excited to go did not think to consider all the boats that would be out. I started trying to drift with thill style bobbers and minnow. Did not catch anything. I tried to replicate a spider rig from the back of the boat. Do people spider rig from the back of a boat? I just puttered along on level 1 on the trolling motor is some coves. I ended up catching 7 Crappie 4 keeps and a bunch of white perch. Skipping subjects..... What is the best jig set up to troll from the back of a boat? How much line should I put out and how far up the line do you put weight and the big question WHAT KIND OF JIG SHOULD I USE? Hope everyone had a great Labor day!

As far as jigs, I only use roadrunners. I don't troll off the back of my boat but most people that I know dot it, they cast just a bit off the back and let the jigs bump the bottom or crank up a couple of times off the bottom.

Just keep at it man!! It took me three years to figure out how to crappie fish. Stick with the spider rigging and tightlining for another few weeks and then start trolling. When I troll, I put six rods out the back with 1/16 oz. jigs of different colors. Usually something w/chartreuse in it. I start at .6 mph and adjust to where I see fish. A long cast with 6 lb. line will get you about 10-12 ft. down. Go slower for deeper and faster for shallower. I also drop down two rods with minnows on them straight down a turn or two off the bottom. I use a 1 oz. weight on the bottom and two hooks about a foot apart above the weight for the minnow rigs. I got enough rod holders on my boat so I can fish all the rods off the back and keep an eye on them. Good luck!

When they really, really turn on is January. 64 bridge. Nothing beats that time and place. Colder the better. Last year was excellent. Catching limits in 1 to 3 hours at the longest. It was cold but the action was non-stop.
It will be good in most other areas of the lake soon but nothing beats the bridge in Jan.

Around second week of December last year I hit a day that was in high 70's and fished 64 bridge...the fish were large and plentiful...doesn't flipping get any better than that.
