Got on the lake around 5:30pm started out bass fishing. Lot's of bait in the water. Stripers started schooling on top couldn't resist followed them for an hour or so and the action was non-stop. The largest of them went a little over 4lbs. Also caught several nice crappie and white bass mixed in with the stripers the largest crappie going 2lbs. After the sun went down set up the underwater lights for the crappies and a few catfish rods. Catching the crappies was easy enough, but the catfish have skunked me the last three times out. I know this is a crappie board but could somebody here help me out with a better area for catfishing. I must not be fishing a good catfish area, can't even catch the small ones. I been fishing High Rock for 20 yrs for bass and crappie. I'm trying to put my nephew on some of them monster catfish, any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I have not done alot of catfishing on the rock, but those I have caught have come from 2 areas. The first is between the damn and Panther creek. If you come out of Flat Swamp, go straight across to the far shore (to the left a little). Fish that cut & bank back to panther creek. The other area is Abbotts creek, just under the Holloways bridge. Fish the channel just of the danger bouys. Hope this helps.
Tight lines to everyone
Sounds like you had alot of fun. We crappie fish there quite often but haven't been in a while. Is the lake full? Thanks!
Up at Jordan out last trip the boat at night tied up next to us was having a commotion every 15 minutes or so. Sounded like they were fighting a flipping alligator in there. I saw it was 8-10 lb cats they were bringing in. When leaving we offered them our leftover minnows and I asked the secret ( I was over there catching 1-2 lbs cats on my cat rods). He said take the small crappies and filet them...great catfish bait. Undoubtedly so.
Crappie is good cat bait!!
