I went out this morning early.. My first crappie fishing trip from a boat in my life. As I said I recently bought a jon boat. Well, I really was clueless what to do the only thing I did right was find a place to buy minnows. I saw a couple people in some coves using those long rods on the front of their boat. I had never seen such a thing. It seemed to work for them. I ended up just anchoring and fished as if i was on the bank. i ended up catching 2 only 1 keeper. I REALLY NEED SOME HELP!! I really don't know what I am doing. I heard fishing around the bridges was a good idea. Where around the bridges? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!!
Do you have a fish finder?

Mikefish I do not have one! I am looking for one at the moment have any suggestions. When i get on what should I look for?
how do you fish 20 feet of water with out using a spider rig? what is the technique for deeper water fishing? Use a bobber and heaver split shot? I am really new to this whole thing but really addicted
Use a double rig for deeper water and drop it to the bottom or a couple of crakns off the bottom. It consists of 2 hooks and usually a 1/2 oz sinker tied to the bottom of your line. You can buy these already made or some people know how to tie this stuff on their regular line.
You have several options for riging. Drop shot rig with one or two hooks. You can google that and find out how to tie it. It aint rocket science. You can search this forum and get lots of info on how to do this or that. Lot of talk about where folks fish for crappie also on Jordan. Many also like the slip bobber rig. Depends on how you are fishing. First order of business is to find yourself a good crappie hole or location. They are a fish that repeat their behavior almost like clockwork. Once you find a good hole for a particular time of year then you can usually go there and get them regularly. Takes a little searching but that part is fun and never ends. Always lookin for a new place to catch em. There is a lot of satisfaction in finding them and sucessfully loading dinner on the table. Then you hook up with a 2 1/2 pounder and begin the search for the 5 pounder. lol You are gonna love these crappie Im tellin ya. Just gotta find your first spot. Take a hint from where those other boats are fishin. They may know something you need to know. Good luck and enjoy the hunt cause thats the best part! The best part about crappie fishing for me is when you find them they usually keep you buisy for as long as you need em too. They are in school!
