    Default water temperature?

for those experts, what is the water temperature that crappies start to moved back to deep water? I have not have much luck this spring fishing swallow, so just wondering if the fish is still deep heading shallow or was it already shallow and heading deep again. i know the water temperature at High Rock is about 60-63 degrees depending on the location but i am having a hard time locating them.

I wish I could help you out but Im having the same problem on Falls this spring. I want to explain it away by saying that I have fished behind a front every time I have fished this month and the fish just were not biting. I think that has a lot to do with it but its hard when you get a report like Vince put out the other day and 2 days later I got skunked. Go figure but it is fishing. I am always much better in the winter than the spring.

When the temp hits 70 degees in the shallows the crappie will move out to deeper water. Try fishing in deeper water that joins the shallows or coves. Also the clearer the water the deeper they spawn....not unusual for crappie to spawn in 10-15 feet deep water if the temp is right and the the water is clear. We use to start in shallow water and move out till we caught one and then stayed on them moving out a little further as the day warmed and the water warmed.

Last week at High Rock we caught most of our fish in 4ft of water or less. The water was 60-65F. With the full moon and the warmer water I believe that the fish were finally moving up to spawn. If I am right the larger females should be moving back off by the end of this week, but then I could be wrong....Good luck with the rest of the spring.

Only advice I have to offer is to find a flat about 15 feet deep, and pull some minnows over it.
