Falls?
If any of you have been and have any info on what the fish are doing please post a report. I trying to figure out where to go tomorrow and not get skunked. Im tired of this smell. Are they shallow or deep. All Im hearing is around 8 foot deep mostly on other lakes and some shallow reports. Help me out here.

FC, I fished Falls Last night untill 1:00am under the 98 bridge. Let me tell you that place is absolutely polluted with White Bass in the 9-10" range. I took appox 20. Crappie were few and far between but took home 5 of them...
Off to Weldon tommorow - hopefully the "circus" there will not be too bad :S:D

White Bass eh? Nothing wrong with that. You put in over at UBC? Im thinking tomorrow I will put the canoe in UBC and fish the timber and up that creex to the back. What do you think ?

I have caught exactly 2 crappie back there - they were good slabs
consider trying in any of the big coves on the opposite side of the Ramp. Put a jig about a foot and half under bobber and cast next to laydowns or up into the back of the cove.
A couple of years ago I tried crappie for striper bait on the Roanoke.. I went into one of those coves and caught 6 and went back to the ramp.. there we're other boats at the ramp launching when I put in and they were still at the ramp when I came back! LOL

FishCrazy,
I fished the UBC area with my father yesterday. Took home 48, released another 30 or so. Kept nothing under 11". 2 biggest were a 15" white crappie and a 15 1/2" black (both near 2lb). Nothing on laydowns in the morning when water temp was 60*, but they made a decent move to the bank around 3pm when the water temp hit 66*. We ran out of minnows early and used 1/16oz black\chart tubes with crappie nibbles the remainder of the day. Main lake laydowns were better than coves. I will post a pick tonight of the fish. Good luck if you go.

Nice! Vince! I know this year is different from when I went into the cove a couple years back but it was indeed in the late after noon (I went after work!)

Dang Vince you killed them. I bet your dad had some fun. Did you do ok with thte tubes only? Did you cast and retrieve the jig or fish it under a float? All over 11 sounds real good! Thanks for the report.

My experience of Falls is that the fish tend to stay on the bank from day to day (barring cold fronts) if the water temp doesn't fall below 65* during the night. I'm not sure of other lakes but this seems to be a consistent pattern at Falls.
With the tubes (we use 4lb test Fireline and weedless jigs) and cast them right into the snags. No floats, just a steady retrieve in the beginning, and i'll slow it down as I get to the deeper part of the tree. That's the beauty of the weedless jigs, and it's rare for me to lose more than 3 during a full day on the lake. Some people say they don't hook the fish as well, that problem goes away with the Fireline as the single wire guard on the jigs bends plenty enough for good solid hooksets.
Oh, the best part of the trip was that it was my father's 66th birthday, and I couldn't have found a better gift than some fish in the cooler
He always had time to take me fishing and hunting when I was a little boy, and it's nice to be able to repay the kindness.
