Hello all, I am currently in Iraq until mid May hoping to be back in the states by the 19th. I am pretty new to crappie fishing, I have done a good bit of bass fishing, and catfishing. Will there still be a pretty good crappie bite to be found late into May, and early June? or is it kinda like LM fishing you need to catch em during the spawn? I have been sitting here the past six months in the sand thinking about getting the old boat out on the water, and wanted to get into some crappie fishing.
hey airforce welcome and hurry home safe cant catch many crappie in that sand what lakes will you be fishing and thank you for your service
[never snap at the hand that feeds ya
I live in Fayetteville, and everything I have heard if you want to have any luck head up to Jordan, or Harris. If there is anything closer anyone would like to share I am open to them as well.
Welcome AFF. Thank you for what you are doing!
I just about 1/2 hour ago walked in the house from Ft Bragg. They are having thier fair over there right now and we took the kids. They had a blast, and we enjoyed meeting some of our troops that are here. They have the repelling wall (not sure of the spelling) and the kiddie jump trainer thing. They did both and earned thier "wings", a little plastic tie tac that shows they were brave enough to do it. The ladies and gentlemen were SO nice to the kids (and adults).
Jordan is a nice lake to fish and has year round crappie there. Shearron Harris is a good bass lake (so I've heard) The crappie there are abundant but a little small.
Welcome to the board and come on home and lets go fishing!![]()
"Be Ye Fishers of Men" You catch them- He will clean them
Crappie ought to be under and around the bridges into May and June. In the summer I like to fish at night until the bugs get real bad. When you get home let me know. I'd be honored to take you one night. Thanks for all you do to keep us safe and let your buddies know that all of us here support you guys! Thanks again. CK.
Just get him on, then we'll worry about getting him in!
Thanks to all for the support. Also thanks for the tips and advice.
God Bless you and get back here safe to fish with us
with my mind on crappie and crappie on my mind -
and if ya'll see Goober later tellem I said duh huh - he'll know what ya mean!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your sacrifices. I am a 20 Army retired Vietnam vet. I know the sacrifices you make. Both me and my family appreciate your service. Stay safe and come home!
I fish Jordan in the summertime at night. There is no skiers or bass fisherman stirring things up and bouncing you around. The fishing is always good around the bridges. The bugs will assault you at first but your lanterns will kill them and you'll be mostly bug free after the initial assault. Perhaps the best thing is that you will beat the sun. It gets VERY hot (not as hot as where you are of course) during the day and the bite typically slows down or stops in the heat. The lanterns draw the crappie vis-s-vis the bait fish. I draw swarms of bait fish that gets so thick at times under the boat, it looks like you can almost walk on them. The crappie and white bass will move in to capitalize on those easy pickings. I just drop a minnow down under the bait fish about 5-10 feet and wait for the strike. I have caught humdreds of fish at night. There is a limit on size and fish you can keep on Jordan. The limit is 15 fish per person and minimum 10 inches. I NEVER have a problem limiting out during the summer. There are no houses and lights are few on the lake so navigation is relegated to people the have GPS or the really know the lake. A very bright light might be needed for navigation. One last thing. The summer nights very often bring in thunder storms pretty fast so keep your eye on the night skies.
Gotta go, fish on!
Thanks for what you do for us Airforcefisherman!
Night fishing is the way to go at Jordan during the summertime for all the reasons spiderzone listed. However, the limit is 20 crappie per person per day.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Spitz, thanks for the 20 you gave in service as well. Also thanks for the night tips. I cant wait to get home and get my 2 sons in the boat and get on some water. As for the heat here, well I dont think those NC summers are so bad!!! lol
