Fished The River From 6 Am Til 9 Pm. Ended Up With 34. Best Fish Was 27 1/2''. River Was Still Rea;l High And Fast. Waters Covering The Rapids In Front Of Ramp. It Has Wewnt Down Thou What Looks Like 6 Ft. Our Fish Were Caught Drifting On Right Bank Past Where Big Rock Was If It Was Above Water. Start About The Treatment Plant And Drift Maybe 3 Miles. Didnt See Any Fish Caught Near The Ramp Area. Marked Fish Down River All Day. Water Temp 60.3 Still Just A Little To Cool For The Big Bite, But Next 5 To 10 Days Should Be Great. We Did Keep 4 21'', Started Out With Gizzard Shad But They Proved To Be To Big For Those Males, So Bought Big Bass Minnows And They Loved Them. No Good Bite In The Am, But About 5;00 They Lit It Up. Take Your Bait With You If Possible. Roanoke Outfitters Are Getting 5.50 A Dozen For Bass Minnows, 8.00 A Dozen For Shad. Threadfin Shad Would Be About Right Size If You Can Net Some. Met Mike And His Son There And They Were Catching Fish Also And Having A Great Time. If You Got To Anchor To Fish Get On Th Right Side Of River About 1/4 Mile Below Wastewater Plant.

Thanks for the update! and the heads up on bait -- I am glad the season has been extended, I might be able to make one more trip to the river.
jc- nice to meet you. Are you the one that works with Hot Rod? I talked him to him on Thursday and he was only a few hours away from getting bait and heading up.
THE BITE WILL BE ON THIS WEEK!!!!!!!!!
Water temps finally hit 60 and were above even in the morning on Thurs. We ended up with about 75-85 fish over 3 days of fishing. Just like jc said - "right side of river just below treatment plant". My son Zach caught the biggest of the trip - 26", and we threw back about a half dozen that were at 24". We used bass minnows on Tue. and Wed. and then caught shad for Thur. Man those shad make a difference. Had our limit by 3:00 pm Tue., 11:00 am Wed., and 8:10 Thurs. Got a couple guys wanting to go up this week, so if I can get off work and they pay for gas I may get to go again -- WooHoo!!!
Mike
Take a kid outdoors!
Thanks for posting guys.I'm glad youre getting into them.Mike/JC was the crowd bad?I am in SC and usually fish the last week of april but with no good reports its sure hard to pull the boat 250 miles there, especially with $ 2.80 gallon gas.
HEY,,WATCH THAT YELLOW ROD
Bearclaw Crowds Wernt To Bad. If I Was Going Next Week Middle Of Week Should Be Real Good. Fish Are Still Coming Up River And Big Females Should Be There. Talked To Hotrod Friday And They Were Catching Lots Of Fish. Speaking Of Gas. 3.00 Gal In Weldon/roanoke Rapids. Its Definately Worth A Trip From S.c. If You Only Make 1 Long Trip A Year Roanoke Should Be It. We Go Every Year And Its Always Worth It. This Year Was Slow So We Are Going Again After Season Closes. No Crowds At All Then And The Big Females Hang Around Till About June.
