What an absolutely beautiful weekend to be on the water. You can tell summer is not far off as the boat traffic this weekend was pretty heavy.
Ralph and I fished the Jordan Lake Striper Club's April 21st tourney and finally caught a fish to weigh in. It was no monster, but got us 10th place points out of 20 boats. We had a good time and took a lunch break to visit my daughter Kristen and her friend Katlin over at Popular Point. They were camping and offered to cook us some lunch. Johnsonville Brats are always good!!
Sunday, I had the pleasure of having Brent (turkeyfootnc), Nelson and Danny aboard. Brent is a return customer and he always brings his horseshoe with him. Every time he is aboard, my boat gets this fishy smell.
I stuck to my guns and headed to my favorite spring location. Even with the water 6 foot higher than normal, the fish were still there. We caught 50 or so with 14 keepers.
We were slow trolling with 8 long rods baited with live minnows. The spawn looks to be almost over and this means the fish will start moving back out into deeper water. They will stop at brush piles and structure along the way, so for the next several weeks, focus on these areas between the shallow flats and the 16 to 25 foot deep channels.
Do yourself a favor, take a kid fishing.
Nice report Hot Spot. Just curious what makes you think the spawn is almost over? Females with empty egg sacks? Or just that the fish were not shallow?
HOT SPOT
As always I had a great time fishing with you. Thanks for showing us the hot hole and the boat ride yesterday. We had a blast and look forward to fishing with you again.
FC, turkeyfoot said when he cleaned them, there were a few eggs left, so "almost over" should be accurate.
Hotspot,
Good report and good lookin' crew there.
This crazy weather had me shakin' my head about the spawn, so I appreciate the info from you and turkeyfoot.
I hope you left a few hungry for my smorgasbord later this week![]()
"Be Ye Fishers of Men" You catch them- He will clean them
Hey lady,
I would head right back to that same spot (past the gate in Big Beaver) and slow troll minnows just off the bottom. The right hand side closest to the creek channel was the most productive area.
Our best fish this year, 2.5 lbs 17" came from that area.
The lake is getting cleaner each day and is now at 219 with plenty of current.
Go get 'em!!
Here is a map that shows a route from the Ebenezer bridge to the gate. The yellow line is the most productive pattern we found.
Thanks bunches! I'll indeed go back there and try that.
Last time I was out, I went down the "Little Beaver" side and nightfished between two dead trees in about 10' of water and slap wore em out.
I think this time, I might try my lesser productive day luck and take yer advice.
I sure love my kids, but I'll be glad when schools out so it don't slow my fishin' down! :D
