Trolling for crappie @ Lale gaston
I am new on this site. I have fished for over 35 years but tried trolling for crappies for the first time recently. We had good success and I am looking forward to improving our techniques. If any of you seasoned crappie fisherman have any tips I am a good listener. I guide for stripers on the Roanoke River and in Roanoke Rapids Lake. Most of my fishing has been bass or striped bass. I was raised near High Rock so in my early days I did a lot of crappie fishing when not bass or catfishing. Thanks for any info. I really enjoy the Kerr Lake message board. Good fishing.

Welcome to the board rrfishman. I look forward to picking your brain about those striper in gaston. Is it time to catch them up behind the Kerr dam? And what can you tell us about the Eyes they put in Gaston? Those guys on the Kerr board are some good fishermen. Many of them frequent this board as well. Im sure someone that trolls wil have some advice for ya. i have only done it once with Buzz on the Eno river. He had a real nice setup with about 12 rods spider rigged and trolled very slow with minnows set to depth the fish were after finding that out and it was pretty amazing how many fish we caught that day. It was almost more than we could handle at times. We had a split shot up from the hook and some rods had jigs as well as tiped with minnows. Some of these other guys can chime in on just how fast to troll and how much weight to use. I think the key is to find the fish. How deep and where. Probably a lot like stripers but I dont think crappie roam as much. Glad to have you on the board.
